ChaoTianmen Square
Chaotianmen square is located in Chaotianmen wharf, Yuzhong District, Chongqing. Chaotianmen is the water gate of Chongqing, with two rivers and three barriers. "Chongqing Chaotianmen square" was inscribed by Jiang Zemin, then general secretary of the CPC Central Committee. In 1891, Chongqing became a commercial port, and Chaotianmen began to set up a customs. In 1927, due to the construction of Chaotianmen wharf, the old city gate was demolished.
Historical evolution
It is said that Chaotianmen was built in 314 BC when Qin General Zhang Yi built Bajun city after he was defeated by Ba state.
In the early Ming Dynasty, Dai Ding expanded the old city of Chongqing and built 17 gates according to the number of nine palaces and eight trigrams, among which Chaotian gate was the largest. There are four big characters on the door: "ancient Chongqing Xiongguan". Therefore, the gate passed along the Yangtze River in the East, facing Nanjing, the capital of the emperor, where it met the imperial mission and received the imperial edict, so it was named Chaotianmen.
In 1891, Chongqing became a commercial port, and Chaotianmen began to set up a customs. In 1927, due to the construction of Chaotianmen wharf, the old city gate was removed. In 1949, the "9 · 2" fire turned the area 2 km away from Chaotianmen into a ruin. Since then, Chaotianmen has only the walls of yuchengji.
Today's Chaotianmen passenger terminal and the newly built grand Chaotianmen square are excellent places to overlook the confluence of the two rivers and the scenery along the river.
Main points
On the left side of Chaotianmen, the Jialing River flows into Xiaochuan, where it flows for 1119 kilometers and then flows into the Yangtze River. Every time in early summer and mid autumn, the green Jialing River water collides with the brown yellow Yangtze River water torrent, the whirlpool is rolling, clear and turbid, forming a "Jiama water" landscape, which is as spectacular as a wild horse's mane. On the right side of the Yangtze River, after it contains Jialing River water, its momentum is becoming more and more powerful. It passes through the Three Gorges, connects the Yangtze River and the Han River, and flows thousands of miles, becoming the "golden section" of the Yangtze River.
The zero kilometer mark of Chongqing highway will be set in Chaotianmen square. "Zero kilometer" is the starting point of a country or city trunk road, and also the symbol of a city center. China's "zero kilometer" sign has been set in the middle of the central axis of Tiananmen Square, while Shanghai has set zero kilometer in people's Square.
