According to Yibin County annals and Xuzhou Prefecture annals of the Qing Dynasty, Qianfo terrace was excavated in 789, the fifth year of Zhengyuan reign of emperor Dezong of the middle Tang Dynasty, and Qianfo hall and Guanyin hall were successively built on it. The Buddhist temple was built in 1095, the second year of emperor zhezong of the Northern Song Dynasty. When incense flourished, it became a Buddhist jungle in southern Sichuan. Huang Tingjian of the Northern Song Dynasty left the famous sentence "the mountain around the tower, the bell and drum are late, and the ancient Zen pass is deep in Cuiping", which makes "Cuiping evening bell" a unique and symbolic cultural landscape in southern Sichuan and listed in the eight sceneries of Xuzhou.

Master Shi Zuming, the first abbot of the temple, inherited his ancestral lineage and led all the monks and people in the temple. In 1998 (the eighth day of August of the fifth lunar year), the main hall was first completed. The main project was completed in 1999, and the opening ceremony was held on the Buddha's birthday that year. Zhao Puchu, President of China Buddhist Association, inscribed the plaque of Qianfo temple. Master Zuming, who rebuilt Qianfo temple, is the fourth generation disciple of master Yuanying, a Chinese Buddhist monk.
After Chongguang, Qianfo temple is built on the mountain. On the central axis, there are Qianfo hall, Tianwang hall, dizang hall, Daxiong hall, Guanyin hall and seven Buddha Hall; on the west side, there are Luohan hall, Damo hall, Gulou (Sutra tower) and western three saints hall; on the East side, there are Qianfo stele forest, Cuiping evening bell (bell tower), Oriental three saints and twelve medicine fork generals niche, long corridor, Range Rover Pavilion, Buddha chanting hall, and so on Wuguantang and squatters. Pavilions, pavilions and tea garden exhibition halls are specially set up in various tourist routes to facilitate pilgrims to rest.
The Zhenjue temple at the foot of Cuiping mountain, which is directly in front of Qianfo temple, was built in the Chenghua period of Ming Dynasty (1465-1487). Later it was Cuiping Academy (the predecessor of Shiyi middle school), and now it is the memorial hall of martyr Zhao Yiman. On the West (right) side of Qianfo temple is adjacent to Nezha palace. On the top of the mountain in the rear is a pair of towers, which plunge into the sky. You can have a panoramic view of the three rivers.
In the past ten years of reconstruction, Qianfo temple has subsidized more than 400000 yuan for 37 impoverished college and technical secondary school students, more than 100000 yuan for improving school running conditions, building water conservancy and rural roads in impoverished mountainous areas, and more than 120000 yuan for disaster relief and cash clothing for impoverished households.
