On both sides of the stele, there are 17 lines of inscriptions on the positive side and 35 words on the full side, while 15 lines of inscriptions on the negative side and 25 words on the full side. 827 words in total. Most of them are well preserved. The inscriptions mainly narrate the ancestral lineage and the life and official history of Xianyu Huang. After he was promoted to Xiaolian county at the beginning of Huang Dynasty, he served as Sima, Ganyuling, Taiwei Xicao, Anbian Jieshi, etc. in the right part of Du Liao Dynasty, and finally served as governor of Yanmen. He died at the age of 81. The inscriptions praise the merits of the dead and record the lineage of the family. The lineage recorded in Beiyin is different from that recorded in Beiyang.
With clear handwriting, Tongbei is the most complete Han stele found since the founding of the people's Republic of China. Xianyuhuangbei has a simple style and a combination of square and round strokes. Among the existing Han Dynasty steles, xianyuhuangbei and zhangqianbei, which are later than xianyuhuangbei, belong to the same school of Fangbi and have their own characteristics. The inscriptions on the inscriptions are of different sizes, not very neat, uneven, and nearly two Cuan calligraphy styles, which are sincere and naive. The unearthed stele of xianyuhuang provides a new and rare model of Hanli for today's calligraphy. The structure of the inscriptions is cautious, simple, vigorous and reserved. It is a typical representative of the school of Chinese calligraphy in the Han Dynasty. It has a certain reference value for the study of ancient inscriptions and the history of calligraphy.
In 1979, the Cultural Relics Publishing House published the first rubbings of xianyuhuang stele preserved by Tianjin History Museum for the first time, which caused a sensation in the calligraphy field and is considered to be the only Han stele comparable to Zhang Qian stele unearthed in the Ming Dynasty.
The strokes of xianyuhuangbei are rich and full, the wave method is smooth, and the feeling of horizontal painting is slightly thicker than that of vertical painting. Most of the inscriptions on the tablet Yang are flat and square, while the inscriptions on the tablet Yin are flat and long, alternating with each other. In addition, sometimes the center of gravity is high and scattered below, sometimes the center of gravity is low and thick, sometimes the center of gravity is biased, or left or right, moving in and out of subtle, interesting. In addition, "xianyuhuangbei" wave pick is also different. Many transverse waves are thick and twisted upward, which adds a sense of humor.
Although Yin and Yang in Xianyu Huangbei are from the same person, the Yin of the tablet is more changeable, more magnanimous and more distinctive. In Xixia, Yingge, Zhangqian and other strong winds, it shows an elegant and magnificent appearance.
