Historical evolution
Qianlong 58 years (1793) "Jiangxia county annals": Luojia mountain in the northeast of the county 20 Li Lake. The origin of the name "Luojia" seems to be related to Buddhist temples. In the 14th and 5th centuries, the place name still exists. When Yang shiting visited the East Lake (formerly Shahu) in the Ming Dynasty, he passed through the mountain from Hongshan. He recorded pine forest and Qingjian, but did not put forward the name of the mountain. In 1929, Wuhan University explored a new campus in Luojia mountain. Wen Yiduo, one of the school's leaders, changed the word "Luojia" to "Luojia" according to the homonym in view of the towering mountains and beautiful scenery, which is like a fairy's necklace. Luojia symbolizes hard jade, which indicates that Wuhan University was the highest institution in the two lakes at that time. Therefore, the name of Luojia mountain is still used today.
During the period of the Republic of China, from the late 1920s to the 1930s, many dignitaries came here to build villas, such as Xia Douyin's "Yangyun villa", commonly known as Xiajia garden, covering an area of more than 70 hectares; Cao Xiangtai's "Zhongyin villa", namely Cao's garden; Huang's garden of tea merchant Huang; and garden houses of Zhang Nanxian, Li Shucheng, Geng zhongzhao, etc. After the establishment of Wuhan University, it attached great importance to landscaping and decorated the area with dense jungle and flowers, becoming a favorite scenic spot for tourists. After the devastation of war, the campus of Wuda was deserted and most of its gardens were obliterated. Only caojia garden was left (the garden was purchased from the Central South military region in 1950 and changed into the fourth guest house of the military region in the 1960s).
In August 1928, the Construction Equipment Committee of national Wuhan University, with geologist Li Siguang as its chairman and forestry scientist Ye Jacob as its secretary, decided to build the new campus of Wuhan University in Luojia mountain. Mr. fhkales, an architect who graduated from the Department of architecture of Massachusetts Institute of technology and studied Chinese architectural art, was invited to Wuhan from Shanghai to design the overall layout and layout of the campus Plan to hire Mr. Miao Enzhao, who also graduated from Massachusetts Institute of technology in the United States, as the new building supervision engineer. In 1929, the road from Wuchang Street entrance to Luojia mountain was built. The first phase of the new campus of Wuhan University started in March 1930 and was completed in January 1932; the second phase started in February 1932 and was completed in July 1937. In March and April 1938, Wuhan was surrounded by the Japanese army on three sides, and Wuda was forced to move westward to Leshan, Sichuan. The Luojiashan campus of Wuda became the military command center of the national government leading the battle in Wuhan. During 1938, every time the route of the Japanese plane passed over Luojia mountain, there was no bombing. In October of the same year, after the fall of Wuhan, the Japanese army turned Luojiashan campus into its original headquarters, which was "based on the purpose of kindness" to preserve its original appearance.
After liberation, the construction of Luojiashan area was rapid and developed rapidly. Wuhan University, located on the hills on both sides of the valley, is one of the most famous universities with glorious revolutionary history in China. In 1938, Zhou Enlai, Deng Yingchao, Guo Moruo, Dong Biwu and Chen Tanqiu were engaged in revolutionary activities here. Zhou Enlai used to live in No. 27, area 1 of the professor's residence, while Guo Moruo lived in No. 20, area 1. On June 1, 1947, in order to suppress the student movement, the reactionary authorities of the Kuomintang in Wuhan created the "June 1 Massacre" that shocked the whole country. The site was on the steps of the "old zhaishe" under the library of Wuhan University. In August of the same year, to commemorate the three students who died, Wuhan University built a "June 1" memorial Pavilion beside the gymnasium and erected a monument to commemorate it. In 1983, the people's Government of Wuhan City announced it as a cultural relic protection unit of Wuhan city.
When the East Lake scenic area was built in 1950, it was included in the scenic area. In 1985, the people's Government of Wuhan city approved the construction plan of East Lake scenic spot, which is listed as "luojiashu township" among the 24 scenic spots of Luohong scenic spot along with Hongshan. After decades of development and construction, the area has become a cultural gathering area with convenient transportation and scenic spots.
