Longtan street is subordinate to Qixia District of Nanjing city. It is managed by Nanjing Economic and Technological Development Zone, and its sub district office is located at No. 8, Fuqian Road, Qixia District. As of 2012, Longtan street has an area of about 108 square kilometers and a population of about 69000. The street governs 5 communities and 19 village committees.
Longtan street has 8 kilometers of golden Yangtze River coastline, which is located in Longtan port area of Nanjing port, the largest 10000 ton deep-water port in China's inland river. With the port resource endowment and the policy advantages of national bonded logistics center, Longtan street has become an important window and front position for the development along the Yangtze River in East China.
Longtan street is known as the "hometown of gold foil" in China. Gold foil products have already entered the international markets in Europe and Asia, occupying half of the global gold foil industry. In June 2006, "Nanjing gold foil forging technology" was approved as the first batch of Chinese intangible cultural heritage by the State Council.

Longtan street is located at the east end of Qixia District in Nanjing City, adjacent to Qixia street in Qixia District in the west, Baohua town in Jurong City in the south, Yangtze River in the north and Longpao street in Liuhe District across the river.

The south part of Longtan street belongs to Ningzhen mountain range, with two parallel hills in east-west direction, Qinglong mountain in the South and Huanglong Mountain in the north. To the north of Huanglong Mountain is the alluvial plain of the Yangtze River, with Jing'an farm in the East and taizizhou in the West. Farming began in the Ming Dynasty.

Longtan street has many ponds and rivers. The Bianmin river runs through the south of the street and the Sanjiang River runs through the middle of the street. In the 1970s, 10 canals were artificially excavated in Jing'an, shangshou, Longtan and Xinglong. In 1994, Fuqian river was opened again. In 1999, all rivers in the territory flowed into the Yangtze River.
Historical evolution
Longtan is an ancient town in Nanjing with a long history, beautiful scenery and outstanding people. According to Jurong county annals, "on the back of Longpan, there is a water pool named Longtan", which is the origin of the name of Longtan town. In Song Dynasty, also known as longtanpu, it was a part of the Yangtze River ancient ferry and huangtiandang. Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty made a tour to the South and personally named it "longan ancient town".
At the beginning of the founding of new China, the jurisdiction of Longtan sub district now belongs to Longtan town of Jurong county and Longtan Township of the seventh district of Jiangning County.
In July 1953, Longtan town under the jurisdiction of Jurong county and Jiangning County was classified as the Ninth District of Nanjing city.
In November 1958, the people's commune was established in Longtan Town, under the jurisdiction of three townships and one town. In 1961, Longtan town was set aside from Longtan commune to restore its organizational system, which is under the leadership of Xuanwu District.
In July 1962, Longtan town was under the jurisdiction of Nanjing suburb office.
In May 1987, Huayuan township of Jiangning County was assigned to Qixia District and merged into Longtan town in October 1993.
On December 25, 2002, according to the municipal government's (2002) No. 125 document, Longtan town was cancelled and Longtan sub district office was established. Under the jurisdiction of the office, there are 4 villagers' committees and 6 community residents' committees (including 2 village community, 1 Factory Community and 2 affordable housing communities).
In 2005, Jing'an town was abolished and Jing'an street was established.
In July 2012, Jing'an street was abolished and its administrative region renovation system was incorporated into Longtan street. After the adjustment, the area of Longtan street is 107.63 square kilometers. The former Longtan Street governs 4 communities and 6 administrative villages, while the former Jing'an Street governs 3 communities and 13 administrative villages.

Economics
Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, people in Longtan were self-sufficient by planting grain crops. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, industry, agriculture and the tertiary industry have gradually developed in a coordinated way. In 1996, it entered the ranks of well-off towns.
On the 8 km long golden Yangtze River coastline of Longtan, there is the largest 10000 ton deep-water port in China's inland rivers, the Longtan port area of Nanjing port (Longtan port). Travel
Longtan is a historic town with a history of more than 500 years. Longtan old street is still antique and well preserved. When Kangxi and Qianlong went down to the south of the Yangtze River, they passed through Longchang temple in Baohua mountain. There are many cultural and historical landscapes in Longtan, including Huang tiandang, the famous place of Yuefei's resistance to gold; the site of shuimayi station in gulongtan has been put under protection; and the famous meeting pavilion was left in the battle of Longtan during the northern expedition of the Republic of China.
