place
After Deng Shichang's martyrdom, the Qing government granted him the rank of "congyipin". Therefore, the main gate of the ancestral hall was built with six steps according to the specifications of Yipin officials, and was rebuilt in the form of Southern ancestral hall in the middle and late Qing Dynasty. The whole building is based on long granite. After one meter above the ground, the walls are built with water milled green bricks. The columns and beams are made of imported kundian wood. The roof is covered with grey plastic tile ridge and Rutong tile surface. The main body is built with front and back seats, connected by two verandahs, and an attic is built at each corner. There are also east courtyard and back garden, East and West gatehouse, front courtyard and screen wall. On the forehead of the main gate is written the words "Deng's ancestral hall", and on both sides are couplets of "Yuntai Gongshou" and "Jiawu Mingliu". There is a pingpo tree in the back garden, which is said to be planted by Deng Shichang. In the Guangxu and Xuantong years of the Qing Dynasty, people who came to pay homage to the sacrifice got off here and then walked to the ancestral hall to worship.
history
During the Japanese occupation of Guangzhou during the Anti Japanese War, the Japanese soldiers were awed by Deng Shichang's prestige and courage and did not dare to destroy Deng's ancestral hall. In the autumn of 1949, the Deng clan founded "Shichang primary school" in the ancestral hall. Later, it was changed into a maternity home. Since 1957, Deng's ancestral hall has been used by Guangzhou No.2 tuberculosis control institute. During the "Cultural Revolution", many cultural relics in the temple were lost, ancillary buildings were damaged to varying degrees, and part of the ancillary land was occupied illegally. In December 1989, Deng's ancestral hall was designated as a municipal cultural relics protection unit. In August 1994, Deng's ancestral hall was set up as Deng Shichang Memorial Hall. Now the whole building has been restored to the style of the Qing Dynasty, and the wood carvings of the ancestral hall have been carefully restored and painted with ochre paint, which reproduces the original appearance of Deng's ancestral hall. The 80 meter long display line reflects Deng Shichang's youth, the Sino Japanese War of 1894 and its postwar influence through nearly 600 pictures and photocopies, sculptures, models and text descriptions. (this place has been designated as "Guangzhou patriotism education base" by Guangzhou municipal Party committee and government in October 1994.)
