Notre Dame Wangde church is the earliest Chinese Church in Macao. Before the establishment of the Bishop's Cathedral in front of the main hall, it was the Bishop's Cathedral of Macao and the first bishop's Cathedral after the establishment of the Diocese of Macao. Every time a new bishop takes office in Australia, he must first go to Wangde hall to get the staff to exercise his power and responsibility. Therefore, Wangde church enjoys a high status among the Catholics in Macao.

Development history

Wangde Notre Dame church, because in the past there was a leprosy house at the back of the church, some people called the church crazy temple.

In January 1576, Pope Gregory XIII announced that Macao would be promoted to a Catholic diocese, and Wangde church became the first Episcopal Church. Later, he thought that the Episcopal Church should not be located near the leprosy hospital, so he built another hall as the Episcopal Church, in which the statue of the Virgin Mary was worshipped.

Today's Wangde hall was rebuilt in 1885. The stone and rice paddock in front of the church gate was paved when it was rebuilt in 1957.
