brief introduction
Tashi square (Portuguese:), located in Wangde hall, Macao, was originally Tashi stadium. The government started construction in May 2005 to demolish the stadium and integrate a section of Holland Garden Road from the Cultural Bureau to Tashi art and Culture Museum into Tashi Plaza. There are underground carriageways. The project has been completed and officially opened to traffic on July 22, 2007. Cui Shiping, Ma ruolong and others are responsible for the whole project. The total cost of construction and project planning is 160 million Macao dollars.
summary
Tashi square covers an area of more than 13000 square meters. The map of the above ground square is covered with Portuguese macadam. On the ground floor, there is a parking lot with a height of 5 meters, which can accommodate more than 60 coaches. On the ground floor, there are recreation areas, catering and entertainment centers and basement shopping malls. In addition, there is a "U" shaped road tunnel under the square to replace the section of Holland Garden Road merged by the square. The underground "U" shaped road tunnel is 200 meters long, 8 meters wide, with double lane traffic, an average line width of 4 meters, and a refuge lane. In addition, the tunnel is equipped with 24-hour monitoring equipment, automatic exhausters and air quality sensors to ensure air circulation.
The reorganization plan is the largest one of the government's since the reorganization of the venue in front of the assembly hall. The purpose is to integrate the area of Tashi and Wangde hall to the Macao Museum and the memorial archway of Da Sanba, so as to become a new landmark with cultural characteristics and a major tourist spot in Macao.
Controversial design
The outer wall of the square building
The exterior wall of the catering and entertainment center on the east side of the square was installed with some unique steel supports in the early stage, which made the residents on the opposite side feel uneasy and was even called "devil's claw". After some discussion, the authorities decided to modify the design and dismantle the steel support.
tunnel
When you drive from Holland Garden Road to the underground tunnel, you need to turn a 90 degree, 30 degree turn to enter the tunnel. The driving vehicles need to be very careful to turn smoothly. In addition, large vehicles, such as buses, cross the line to turn. This narrow road tunnel entrance has also been criticized as the "gate of hell.". Later, the authorities made amendments and passed the test of two buses turning at the same time on July 11, 2007. However, the U-shaped road tunnel scheme is still under criticism.
In February 2007, the authorities pointed out that the "U" shape of the underground tunnel of Tashi square was originally designed to match the original Tashi station of Macao light rail. However, Tashi station was eventually cancelled and the design of the underground tunnel was not changed. In July 2007, it was explained that the straight-line tunnel was not feasible, because if it was to have the same depth (six meters), the straight-line tunnel would need more space to expand the entrance and exit, which would result in the nearby streets could not turn into Holland Garden Road, and would affect the traffic from the area to Costa road. In addition, the authorities pointed out that the nearby historical buildings were also one of the factors to be considered. As the buildings near the square, such as the Cultural Services Bureau building, were not piled, the construction of straight tunnels would affect the structure of the buildings.
Other criticisms
The original site of Tashi square is Tashi stadium. The construction of the square is at the cost of Macao's rare youth recreational venues. However, some commentators believe that the former stadium was surrounded by roads, and it was not healthy to inhale automobile exhaust.
The Portuguese macadam floor of the square is not so good by hand, and the copper handrails on the square are easy to attract thieves' salivation.
