Hongshan pagoda

The Hongshan pagoda started construction in 1280 and was completed in 1280, which took 11 years to complete. The tower is seven steps and eight squares, made of bricks and stones. It is 13 zhang3 feet tall, 11 zhang2 feet wide at the base, and 1 zhang3 feet high at the top. Before the founding of the people's Republic of China, the tower was damaged. After the founding of new China, the people's government attached great importance to the protection of temples and cultural relics. In 1953, the Hongshan pagoda was fully repaired and renovated. The Millennium pagoda was rejuvenated and added new scenery to the mountains and rivers of the motherland.

Development history

According to the local records, when it was originally built, there were wooden cornices and guardrails on the periphery of each floor. Under the tower, there were brick and wood structure corridors around, and wind chimes dropped from the octagonal corners of each floor. With exquisite design and vast engineering, it was the first in central Hubei. After years of wind and rain erosion accumulated repair. In 1871, a large-scale reconstruction project was carried out, and it was not completed until 1874. In order to keep it for a long time, the original wooden cornice was changed into stone, the wooden railing was changed into iron railing, and the gallery under the tower was changed into octagonal stone steps. The top of the tower is five feet higher than the original one, and 13000 Jin of copper is cast in the style of Wen Bi Feng to form the top, so as to keep it stable forever. During the ten years of turmoil, the Hongshan pagoda was unprotected and damaged again. Some of the stones fell off, most of the iron bars of the windows were rusted, and the 13000 Jin copper spire was on the verge of collapse. Since the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, with the implementation of the policy of freedom of religious belief, the restoration of Hongshan pagoda has been put on the agenda. The masses once called for: "the towering Hongshan pagoda is famous all over the world, and it is urgent to repair and manage it well, and the four modernizations will add a new look.". Today, the Hongshan pagoda has been renovated, attracting many tourists to climb and look at it every day.

The pagoda is located on the south slope of Hongshan mountain in Wuchang, northeast of Baotong temple. It was built in 1280 to commemorate the founder of LINGJI Tzu Jen, also known as LINGJI tower. In 1485, the temple was renamed Baotong pagoda. Because it is located in Hongshan, later generations also called Hongshan pagoda. The tower has seven floors and eight sides. It is a brick stone imitation wood structure, with a height of 44.1 meters, a base width of 37.3 meters, and a top width of 4.3 meters. It spirals up along the stone steps in the round gate of the tower base, and can reach the top floor directly. It is known as "the tower of several peaks outside the sky". Climbing the tower, you can see the confrontation between the two mountains, the diversion of the two rivers, and the heroic appearance of the three towns. Now the pagoda has been renovated by the administrative department and listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Hubei Province.
