Zhuhai Grand Theater

Zhuhai Grand Theater, located on the seashore of Yeli Island, Lovers Road, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, is the only opera house built on the island in China. Zhuhai Grand Theater is composed of two groups of shells, one large and one small, which constitute the overall image of the opera house, so it is called "Sun Moon shell".

Zhuhai Grand Theater is a landmark building in Zhuhai City. It was created and designed by Professor Chen Keshi. The construction started on April 28, 2010, with a total construction area of 59000 square meters and an estimated investment of 1.08 billion yuan. The main structure was capped on December 29, 2013.

On January 1, 2017, Zhuhai Grand Theater held its first performance. Zhuhai opera house was once named as Zhuhai opera house. Before its premiere, its name was finally determined as Zhuhai opera house.

Introduction to theatre

Zhuhai Grand Theater is located on the seashore of Yeli Island, Lovers Road, Zhuhai. It is the only opera house built on the island in China, with a total construction area of 59000 square meters, including 1550 seat Grand Theater and 550 seat multi-functional small theater. The big and small theaters are in the shape of sun and moon, also known as "big shell" and "small shell". The maximum height of "big shell" is 90 meters. Zhuhai Grand Theater was officially established in 1992, started construction in 2010, and ushered in its first performance on January 1, 2017.

With a total investment of 1.08 billion yuan, Zhuhai Grand Theater is one of the components of "one academy and three museums" (Zhuhai Grand Theater, Zhuhai Museum, urban planning exhibition hall and Zhuhai Culture Hall). The completion of Zhuhai Grand Theater will enhance the resource value of Zhuhai area and end the history of Zhuhai without large opera house.

Design features

Zhuhai Grand Theater is like two groups of "shell" shape, one big and one small. It presents a semi transparent effect during the day, and at night it is as transparent as moonlight. Born in the sea, Bei Zhu is a historical and cultural city with spiritual characteristics of Chinese mainland taking the lead in embracing marine civilization in Zhuhai.

The design scheme of Zhuhai Grand Theater not only comes from the unique marine species "Sun Moon shell", but also refines the image of "shell", and further expresses the significance of space with modern building materials and technology. Two groups of "shells", one large and the other small, constitute the overall image of the opera house, which can be seen in quite a wide area of the city. Taking the beautiful fins of fish as the creative inspiration, the surrounding landscape design not only highlights the echo with shells, but also further strengthens the characteristics of coastal architecture.

Chief designer

The architectural design of "Sun Moon shell" of Zhuhai Grand Theater is presided over by Professor Chen Keshi, Professor of Peking University and chief designer of Zhongying city

. In 2009, Zhuhai municipal government solicited architectural design plans from all over the world, attracting more than 30 famous design institutions from the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Switzerland and top design masters in China, including designers of Beijing National Grand Theater and "bird's nest" of National Stadium. In the end, Professor Chen Keshi and the Zhongying urban design team put forward the "Sun Moon shell" scheme, which stood out and finally won and was determined as the final implementation scheme.

Design concept

The design inspiration of "riyuebei" comes from the famous painting the birth of Venus. Venus, the goddess of love and beauty, was born from the shell. In addition, riyuebei is only unique in the Pearl River Delta, so the concept of riyuebei comes into being.

For the design, the winning designer Professor Chen Keshi's interpretation is: "in the universe, the sun and the moon are the purest; in the ocean, the shell is the most beautiful." He said that Zhuhai Grand Theater is the only opera house built on an island in China. It can create the incomparable artistic charm of opera house buildings by complementing the lush Yeli island on the endless blue sea.

The design scheme of the Opera House highlights the originality and artistic value of the opera house building. It not only comes from the unique marine species "Sun Moon shell", but also refines the image of "shell", and further expresses the significance of space with modern building materials and technology.

Sightseeing corridor

The sightseeing corridor above the Grand Theater of Zhuhai Grand Theater is the highlight of the project. From this sightseeing corridor, visitors can see the mountain and sea scenery around Yeli island. After the completion of Zhuhai Grand Theater, "the sun moon shell will present a semi transparent effect in the daytime, and it will be as crystal clear as moonlight at night. No matter from which angle you appreciate it, Zhuhai Grand Theater will be an outstanding work of art."

Multifunction Room

Zhuhai Grand Theater project will adopt the world's advanced sound, optical design and stage technology design. The grand theater can accommodate 1600 people, which is composed of three parts: the front hall, the auditorium and the stage. It can meet the needs of large-scale musical, musical, ballet, drama, symphony and large-scale comprehensive performances, while the small theater can accommodate 500 people.

Zhongfutai has been focusing on Theater Construction for 19 years, contributing six of the top ten theaters in China. In the interior decoration of Zhuhai Grand Theater, there is an atmosphere of the sea in many aspects, such as stage technology, music, stage machinery, stage lighting, control system and so on.
