brief introduction
It is located on two hills at the north foot of eling, Tangjia Town, Zhuhai City. With mountains and lakes, pavilions and pavilions, shady trees and beautiful scenery, it is a tourist attraction with characteristics and interest. It was originally the private garden of Tang Shaoyi, a political celebrity in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China. It was built in the first year of Xuantong in the Qing Dynasty.
Tangjiagongyuan is one of the three famous gardens in Zhuhai. It covers an area of more than 500 mu and costs nearly 400000 silver. It was built in six years by stages. After that, Tang Shaoyi "toured among them to entertain the evening scenery". The original name of the garden is "xiaolinglong new hall". It is said that it originated from a hollowed out stone crystal ball which was very popular in Tang Dynasty. At the gate of the park is an elegant stone archway with two stone lions. On the top of it is engraved the three words "Gongyuan". The couplet says: "a hundred years to cultivate people and ten years to cultivate trees", "a wise man to enjoy water and a benevolent man to enjoy mountain". All of these are Wang Jingwei's handwriting. In Gongyuan Park, there are hundreds of species with lush green trees, wonderful trees, strange vines, fragrant flowers and famous fruits. Most of the provenances are precious plants introduced from Southeast Asia and European countries. There are famous mahogany in France, Queen rose, grape and guava in Philippines, Annona in Thailand, bauhinia in Malaysia, Cymbidium and ginseng fruit in the garden; Japanese black pine, Indian rubber banyan and golden green bamboo are rare tree species in China, which are called small botanical garden by relevant experts. In the past, Tang Shaoyi appreciated Su Dongpo's taste of "eating 300 lychees a day". He planted more than 500 lychee fruit trees in the garden. When cicadas sing and Li ripens, thousands of Danli are hanging on the branches, which is charming.
In the garden, there is a big banyan tree with thick shade growing on a 2-meter-high tower. This tower is called "Gurong tower", also known as "symbol tower". It was built by Tang Shaoyi to move mountains and fill valleys. After the tower was built, the seeds of banyan trees from the birds who came here sprouted in the tower. Later, a banyan tree grew up. The roots of the tree extended continuously, and the surrounding of the tower was full of roots, so people called it "Panshi solitary banyan", which was a beautiful scenery in the garden. There is also a lemon eucalyptus tree nearby. It looks up like a graceful beauty. It's wrapped in pomegranate skirt and fluttering in the wind. It's very thought-provoking, so it has the nickname of "beauty tree".
In the common paradise, the Chinese and western star watching pavilion has its own characteristics. The Yellow exterior wall looms under the shade of thick green. In fact, this is a small Observatory built by Tang Shaoyi. The arched ceiling on the second floor, originally clearly marked with Orion, Beidou, Qisu and other constellations, has been destroyed. The roof of the pavilion is round, with six battlements shaped brick columns, which are evenly distributed and connected with six circular zinc tubes. The zinc tube is connected by a red vertical line, which is convenient for people to use the sextant to observe the celestial bodies according to 180 degrees of East and West longitudes. It is said that on the first and fifteenth day of the lunar new year, Tang Shaoyi and her family would visit the star watching pavilion to enjoy the moon and the stars and share the happiness of their family. There is a strange phenomenon of natural echo wall in the center of the roof.
After the establishment of the city in 1979, Gongyuan Park was turned into a district level Park, with newly built "Bihai restaurant", "Xibin Pavilion", "Leshan Pavilion" and a 37 Mu wide "Jiuqu bridge artificial lake" to add beauty to the park.
Modern new garden
Most of the existing private gardens in China were built in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the period of the Republic of China, wars continued, and no decent gardens were built in the north and south of the river. Only when Lingnan is relatively stable and the western wind is spreading to the East, a few new style gardens are still built. The most characteristic of them is the common paradise, which has both the elegance and romance of the West and the indifference and seclusion of the East.
history
Tang Shaoyi (1862-1938), the owner of the paradise, was born in Tangjiawan, Zhuhai (formerly Xiangshan County). At the age of 12, he became the second batch of children sent by the Qing government to study in the United States, and later entered Columbia University to study liberal arts. After returning to China, he held an important position in the customs, foreign affairs, transportation, postal and other departments of the Qing government. Later, he was a top official of the Qing Dynasty, and was the first president of Shandong University. He was once a good confidant of Li Hongzhang and Yuan Shikai.
The park is located at the foot of Mount Everest in the western suburb of Tangjia Town, Zhuhai City. Built in 1910, it was originally Tang Shaoyi's private garden, named Linglong mountain Pavilion. When it was expanded in 1912, it was officially called Gongyuan. Tang Shaoyi (1860-1938), also known as Shaoyi, was born in Tangjia Town, Xiangshan County (now Zhuhai City). One of the earliest Japanese American students in modern China. He was the first Prime Minister of the Republic of China, a member of the Standing Committee of the southwest government affairs committee, a member of the Kuomintang government, and a magistrate of Zhongshan County. He was assassinated in Shanghai in 1938.
Tang Gong traveled all his life in western countries, and had a wide range of knowledge. He also had a deep foundation of Chinese classical culture. Therefore, the garden style of Gongyuan is unique, which can be described as "a combination of Chinese and western, but different". In the west of the garden, the Chinese scholar bureaucrats' feelings of indifference and seclusion are ready to emerge: the path is secluded, the ancient trees are dense, the rockery fish pond, the memorial archway stone lion, the green tile and white wall; in the east of the garden, it is elegant and romantic Nepal style "pigeon nest" is rare in China, "hard ground tennis court" is also a fashion thing unheard of at that time, and China's only modern private Observatory "star watching Pavilion" is built completely according to the European model.
Gongyuan Park was founded in 1910. At that time, Tang Gong witnessed the corruption of the Qing government and the decline of the West. He retired to his hometown and built a private garden of 300 mu in his hometown. He named the garden "xiaolinglong mountain hall" after a crystal ball he had collected. In the following year, Tang Gong was sworn by Sun Yat Sen to join the alliance, and became the first Prime Minister of the Republic of China, becoming a key figure in "going to the Republic". In 1921, Tang Gong responded to Dr. Sun Yat Sen's proposal of "having fun with the masses" and opened the private garden to the public, and changed its name to "common paradise".
During the period of the Republic of China, political and cultural celebrities such as Mei Lanfang, Wang Jingwei, Edgar Snow, Hu Hanmin and Sun Ke all visited the common paradise, either chanting poems or planting trees, or talking about the past and the present Walking in such a garden makes you feel so close to history that you can almost see the time flowing back slowly beside you.
Introduction to scenic spots
[star watching Pavilion]
The private Observatory built by Tang Gong is the only one of its kind in China. The lower level is a library and a small living room, and the upper level is a cylindrical Observatory structure. The arched ceiling on the second floor marks Orion, the big dipper and the seven constellations. The roof is round, with an average of six battlements shaped brick pillars connected with six circular zinc tubes, which are connected by a red vertical line. It is said that it is convenient for people to use the sextant to observe celestial bodies 180 degrees from east to west.
The sea breeze blows the open window, and the romantic feeling never stops.
[greenhouse]
A winter heating house in the northeast of the United States burns firewood in the fireplace to keep the whole house warm. It is rare in Lingnan of China. It was built by Tang Gong to welcome his classmate, colleague and good friend Hoover, the 31st president of the United States, and imitate the style of the house when he was a child studying in the United States. The greenhouse has not been raised for many years, just like silent eyes, watching, people come and go, the world is cool.
[carrier pigeon nest]
The tower shaped multi-layer pigeon nest was built by Tang Gong to support the carrier pigeons. It has Nepalese style, which is rare in China. The tower is divided into five layers, each of which is surrounded by small arch holes for pigeons to enter and leave. The dove, the taste of the tide, whispers on the tower nest, a love poem of a foreign land.
[Garden Villa]
The bungalow style villa was originally built for Tang Shaoyi to rest in the garden and meet guests. There is a couplet written by Tang Gong, which says: "when you open the door, you can come to the guests. Why ask the host when you look at the bamboo.". Now it is the "exhibition hall of Tang Shaoyi's historical materials", in which a large number of precious pictures and some cultural relics are collected to confirm Tang Shaoyi's life. The courtyard is so lonely that when you look at the bamboo, you never ask the master.
[Pinus thunbergii]
In 1921, Tang Gong responded to Sun Yat Sen's proposal of "cooperating with the masses" and renamed his private garden "Gongyuan", which was open to the public. When Sun Yat Sen heard about this, he specially sent a rare Japanese black pine to plant in the garden. Now the tree is already green and dense.
Blue and white landscape flowerpot
There are eight big flowerpots in Gongyuan, the big one is more than 80cm in diameter, and the small one is 40cm in diameter. They are made by Foshan kiln, one of the top ten famous kilns in China. The flowerpots handed down from Foshan kiln are rare, so they can be called "out of print". What is more precious is that these flowerpots were specially made by Tang Gong for his 60th birthday (1921) in Guangzhou Yuhua company. Each flowerpot has three blue and white landscape poems and paintings with elegant and unsophisticated themes.
[Panshi ancient banyan]
After the completion of the park, the workers piled up the extra stones into a tower. Soon the birds came to the top of the tower to inhabit, and the seeds of banyan trees sprouted and grew. After nearly a hundred years of continuous growth, it became this wonder. The bird has no heart
