Gaize generally refers to Gaize county
Gaize county is subordinate to the Tibet Autonomous Region and is located in the northwest of Tibet, the east of Ali Region and the hinterland of northern Tibet Plateau. It is connected with Shuanghu and NIMA counties in Naqu city in the East, Coqin County in the southeast, Zhongba County in Shigatse City in the south, Geji county and Rutu County in the west, and Kunlun Mountain in the north. It is 450 km long from east to west and 670 km wide from north to south, with a total area of 135600 square kilometers. It is the largest pure animal husbandry County in Ali Region, accounting for about one third of the total area of Ali Region.
In 2011, the total population of Gaize county was 22000. Gaize County governs one town and six townships: Gaize Town, Wuma Township, Xianqi Township, mami Township, Dongcuo Township, Gumu Township and Chabu township. There is one community and 49 administrative villages, and the government is located in Gaize town.
National roads S301 and 216 (the second line of Xinzang highway in the center) pass through the county.

Evolution of organizational system
During the Shunzhi period of the early Qing Dynasty, there were three tribes in Gaize: gaizeben, bangba and seguo. Gaizeben and seguo tribes are under the jurisdiction of the gaxia government and the Dalai Lama.
In 1680, the fifth Dalai Lama sent gadanchiwang into Ali to defeat Ladakh's army. In 1686, the government of aligarben was established. The bangba tribe is under the jurisdiction of Garbon. Since then, with the continuous rise and growth of the tribes in Gaize, the third generation leader of Gaize Ben was appointed as the hereditary fourth grade official in the later period of Gongbu Dunzhu (1925), which was equivalent to the clan level.
Before 1949, in addition to bangba tribe, gezeben tribe and seguo tribe (later divided into segoroma tribe and seguojiangma tribe), gaizejing (including Cuoqin) also had luomei tribe, Qiuxia tribe, Lutu tribe, Xiama tribe, qiangtu tribe, Narang tribe, jiangrang tribe, qiuxialao tribe, Chima tribe, Xiongma tribe, talmei tribe, talji tribe and Baguo tribe There are more than 20 tribes, including Luo, Shenduo, Jiangdu, Jiangmei, baiersi, Dongguo, jiangma, Angwu and pianji. The earliest seguo tribe lived in the Mami area of Gaize about 900 years ago, which is the first tribe to live in Gaize. Gaizeben, bangba tribes and other tribes were mostly formed by the migration of Qinghai, Changdu and other places.
On August 29, 1950, the first company (advance company) of the independent cavalry division of the Xinjiang garrison of the Chinese people's Liberation Army (PLA) arrived in zhamangbao (in the present advance township) in the northwest of Gaize under the leadership of Li Dishan, a representative of the League party.
On May 6, 1951, an Zhiming, deputy head of the second regiment of the independent cavalry division, led the follow-up troops into Ali.
In March 1959, the local government of Tibet and the upper reactionary groups openly tore up the 17 article agreement and launched an all-round armed rebellion. An armed rebellion broke out in some parts of the southeast of Gaize. The 33rd regiment of the 11th division of the Tibet Military Region of the Chinese people's Liberation Army moved in to quell the rebellion in Gaize.
In October 1960, the people's Government of Gaize county was established, with jurisdiction over Lunan and Lubei districts.
In March 1961, the county was moved from Mendong village to Longren, and then to luomarenbo (the present site).
In 1962, eight district committees and offices were established successively in Kangtuo District, mami District, Dongcuo District, Wuma District, Cishi District, Daxiong District, Coqin district and jiangrang district.
On July 15, 1966, the leading group of the cultural revolution in Gaize county was established.
On April 1, 1967, the military control group of Gaize county was established, and military control was implemented in the whole county.
On December 25, 1968, the Revolutionary Committee of Gaize county and the core leading group of the Revolutionary Committee Party were established, replacing the county people's government.
On February 7, 1969, the Revolutionary Committee members of Gaize county set up "four groups", namely, the administrative group, the political working group, the people's security group, and the production command group, to replace the original county Party committee and the government's working organizations. In nearly four months from June to September, the revolutionary committees of Dongcuo District, Zishi District, jiangrang District, Coqin District, Kangtuo District, Wuma District, mami district and Daxiong district were successively established.
At the end of 1970, with the approval of the State Council, Lunan was divided into two districts and Coqin county was established. Both counties were under the jurisdiction of Ali Region. The county government is now in Gaize town.
In October 1971, the original Gaize County governed four districts of Daxiong, Coqin, Cishi and jiangrang, and 21 townships were assigned to the newly established Coqin county.
On May 18, 1977, with the approval of the Tibet Autonomous Region, preparations for the establishment of the Chabu region began.
On October 30, 1978, the Chabu district Party committee and the district Revolutionary Committee were established.
On December 25, 1981, the third people's Congress of Gaize was held, the Standing Committee of the county people's Congress was established, and members of the county people's government were elected.
In 1984, the county and township level election work was carried out. With the people's commune as the unit, the election committee was set up to "withdraw the commune and build the township". So far, the Revolutionary Committee organizations from county to township in the whole county have been abolished.
In 1997, the county government was stationed in Renbu, Longma.
In August 1999, Gaize County withdrew its districts and merged with townships, readjusting its administrative divisions. After withdrawing the districts and merging with townships, six townships including Wuma Township, Dongcuo Township, mami Township, Xianqi Township, Chabu Township and Gumu Township and Gaize town were under its jurisdiction.

Gaize county is located in the South Qiangtang High Lake Basin, which is a high mountain valley without plain. The mountain is gentle and the terrain inclines from northwest to Southeast. The main mountains in the territory are Kunlun Mountain, longer mountain, Xiakangjian mountain, darilong mountain, Boza mountain, chaduogangri mountain, etc., with an altitude of more than 6000 meters. The average altitude of the county is 4700 meters, and the lowest is 4356 meters. The highest peak, qiongmuztag, is 6962 meters above sea level.

There are a lot of glaciers, rivers, lakes, hot springs and abundant groundwater in Gaize county. Glaciers are mainly distributed in Kunlun Mountains, xiagangjian mountains, zangsagongri mountains, qiongbugangla mountains and anglonggangri mountains, with a total area of 72 million square meters. The water quality is good, and it is an important supply source of rivers, lakes and springs. There are 12 large rivers (with a total length of more than 20 kilometers) and 14 lakes with an area of more than 60 square kilometers, most of which are saline lakes. Heishibei lake is the highest Lake in the territory, with an altitude of 5048 meters. More than 30 hot springs (26 of them have been proved) are scattered in the territory.
