But at the top gate of Jiezhu Temple sat an official with a white face and three long whiskers, wearing a silk scarf and a court uniform. Two waiters were standing on the left and right, one holding a stack of books, the other holding a goose. The official who sat upright was Wang Xizhi, a general of the right army of Jin Dynasty, a great calligrapher and an internal historian of Kuaiji.
Jiezhu temple has been destroyed and built many times. The existing gate, main hall and East chamber were rebuilt in 1924. The couplet on the Mountain Gate says, "this is not a spirit mountain, after all, what kind of world is it; if there is no living Buddha, why should it be so solemn?" The name of the ancient house is Jiezhu temple, which has to start from a historical story. It is said that when Wang Xizhi lived in this house, he lost a pearl he loved very much. At that time, he suspected that it was stolen by an old monk who was very close to him.
When the old monk learned that his friendship was suspected, he did not give any explanation, but was depressed and unhappy, and finally died with anger. Later, it was found that the Pearl was swallowed by a white goose in Wang Xizhi's house. Wang was too late to repent. He gave up his house as a temple in memory of the old monk and inscribed the plaque of "Jie Zhu Shuo Temple" to show his determination to give up the habit of playing with beads.
Origin of the name of Jiezhu Temple
·It is said that Wang Xizhi has two good points: one is to love geese, the other is to love pearls. In order to make his fingers more flexible and powerful, Wang Xizhi carried a crystal clear pearl with him. He held it in his palm and rubbed it back and forth from time to time.
One day, Wang Xizhi stood by the pool watching the white goose wading with the Pearl in his hand. Suddenly, the boy informed a monk to come to visit. Wang Xizhi put the Pearl on the table and talked with this monk friend.
In the meantime, someone came to see Wang Xizhi. Wang asked the monk to wait and go out to meet another guest. When he came back, the beads on the table disappeared. Wang Xizhi suspected that he was a man out of the world. His desire was not pure. Although it was inconvenient to speak clearly, his face showed a look of disdain.
When the monk saw this, he felt aggrieved, but it was hard to tell, so he had to go The monk was wronged for no reason. He was so sad that he didn't think about food and tea. He soon died of starvation in the name of "sitting on the throne".
Unexpectedly, a big white goose in Wang Xizhi's house suddenly became sick and died in a few days. Family feel strange, open goose's belly, unexpectedly found that pearl. It turns out that the goose mistakenly swallowed the Pearl as fodder that day.
Wang Xizhi was very sad and deeply felt that he had wronged the monk friend. He regretted and was very sad. It was really despicable for him to doubt and hurt his most sincere friend for the sake of a vulgar object.
Since then, he has given up the habit of playing with beads. In order to commemorate the innocent monk, he donated the whole house and idyllic mountains to Buddhism to build a temple, and personally inscribed a horizontal plaque "Jie Zhu Temple" on the door to commemorate the monk and warn himself.
He transformed his house into a "Jiezhu Temple", saying that he should take the loss of the Pearl as a lesson and treat his friends with sincerity. He should not easily doubt others and make them suffer injustice.
After Wang Xizhi returned to the west, his son followed his father's will and painted the body with fire paint to continue his duty. Nai fire paint was difficult to prevent corrosion, so he replaced it with a statue, so it was unique with other temples. The name of the temple is "Jie Zhu", which is based on the Zen idea of "being diligent and holding Jing Jie is like getting a pearl" in the preface of fahua Sutra. The other is to clarify the original intention of giving up the house.
