Langmei Temple

It is said that emperor Zhenwu went to Wudang Mountain to practice. One day, he sat down to rest under a tall and big nut tree. There is a big plum tree just a few feet away. It is full of plum blossoms.

Legend of langmei Temple

The more he saw the plum blossom, the more he liked it. He couldn't help but break off a branch and put it on the nut tree. He prayed in his heart: "if I can practice Tao, the plum branch will take root and blossom on the nut tree. If I can't get Tao, the plum branch will wither and die with me."

Emperor Zhenwu sat in the rock house near Lang tree and practiced meditation all day. After a year of sincere cultivation, the plum tree will have a root; after a year of sincere cultivation, the plum branch will have a bud. He practiced in good faith year after year, and the plum branches grew luxuriantly. When he succeeded in his practice, Mei zhi'er grew into a big tree on the nut tree, bearing fragrant fruit. Because there is a plum tree on the nut tree, people call it the nut tree.

The fruit is big and sweet. It's golden. You can smell a fragrance three or five miles away.

The poor people in Wudang Mountain take the fruit home, and the patient will soon get better after eating it; the thin and weak people will soon be strong after eating it; the little boy will soon become a young man after eating it; the old people will lose their silver hair and grow black hair after eating it, and grow new teeth and rejuvenate

One year, just as the plum tree was bearing fruit, the empress of the emperor's palace fell ill. No one can cure the disease. The emperor decreed: who can cure the disease of the empress, who has a wife, will be appointed as a senior official; who has no wife, will be recruited as a son-in-law; the Taoist will build the main hall, the monk will build the temple, and will be granted the title of great immortal.

There is a Taoist in Wudang Mountain. He picked the fruit and took it to the capital to present it to the emperor. The emperor was very happy that the empress Zhenggong had been cured, so he appointed the Taoist priest as immortal langmei.

The emperor knew that the fruit was priceless, so the poor were not allowed to pick it. He asked the Lang Mei immortal to guard the Lang Mei tree, and built a hall for him, which was named "Lang Mei Xianweng Temple".

Strange to say, once the emperor built the temple, the plum trees would never blossom again. The leaves are turning yellow. The branches gradually withered and the tree died. Since then, there have been only langmei temple and no more langmei trees in Wudang Mountain.
