Historical evolution
Taiping Baoen temple is located at 373 Lanzhou Road, Yangpu District, formerly known as "Taiping Temple".
Founded in the Northern Song Dynasty during the Taiping period, it is the earliest Buddhist temple in Yangpu District. According to the records of Shanghai by Hongzhi of Ming Dynasty, the monk and the iron Buddha built the temple. The temple is named after the year of Emperor Taizong of Song Dynasty. In the heyday of the temple, there were three entrances in the hall, including a monk's field, a monk's cemetery and a monk's ashes brick tower. Ginkgo biloba is planted in the temple, and there are three people holding each other. Since the temple was built, it has been destroyed and built many times.
When the main hall was rebuilt in 1932, the mountain gate and the head hall were abandoned.
At the end of 1940s, due to poor management, monks made a living by renting houses and land, which led to the decline of temples.
By the 1960s, there was only one empty hall left.
In September 2006, after approval, the restoration work started.
In May 2009, a foundation laying ceremony was held for the reconstruction of the new temple, named "Taiping Baoen Temple", which is the lower house of Jing'an Temple.
architectural style
The main building of the reconstruction is based on the Bodhisattva Buddha Pagoda in India, where Sakyamuni Buddha is truly located. The upper layer is the Vajra throne tower, and the lower layer is the Mahatma hall.
