Hangzhou Library
Hangzhou Library, located in Jianggan District, Hangzhou City, is one of the earliest Provincial Public Libraries in China. It is the advanced collective of Zhejiang provincial library work and Zhejiang provincial civilized library. It was rated as the national first-class Library in May 2018.
Hangzhou Library was founded on July 1, 1958. Its original name was Hangzhou Library. It was changed to its current name in May 1961. The children's branch of Hangzhou Library was established in 1963. In October 2008, the new Hangzhou Library was officially opened.
As of December 2018, Hangzhou Library has a building area of 50000 square meters, 3942 reading seats, 16 departments, 186 staff, and 5.863 million volumes of literature, including 32000 ancient books, 330000 newspapers and 647000 audio-visual literature.
Historical evolution
In July 1958, Hangzhou Library was established.
In May 1961, Hangzhou Library was renamed Hangzhou Library.
In 1963, it accepted the children's reading room of Zhejiang Library and established the children's branch of Hangzhou Library.
In January 1990, Hangzhou library established a mobile library.
In 2003, Hangzhou Library joined the member libraries of the League of nations.
In October 2008, the new Hangzhou Library was completed in Qianjiang new city.
In 2010, Hangzhou Library was designated as the second batch of "national key protection units of ancient books" by the State Council.
In May 2018, Hangzhou Library was rated as a national first-class library.
In November 2019, the list of national intangible cultural heritage representative project protection units was announced, and Hangzhou Library was qualified as "West Lake legend" project protection unit.

As of December 2018, Hangzhou Library has collected 5.863 million volumes of literature, including 32000 volumes of ancient books, including 4845 rare ancient books, 330000 newspapers and periodicals, 647000 audio-visual literature and 1212000 e-books.
Ancient books and documents
As of December 2018, Hangzhou Library has more than 40000 ancient books and Republic of China books, including 4845 rare ancient books and 1400 kinds of rubbings. There are 29 rare ancient books in the collection, which are included in the first batch of national precious ancient books list.
Local Literature
As of December 2018, Hangzhou Library has collected nearly ten thousand volumes of local literature in Hangzhou. The carrier forms include books, ancient books, periodicals, newspapers, rubbings and CD ROMs, covering all aspects of Hangzhou's development. Wenlan (quarterly), a Hangzhou cultural journal, has been published to provide reference services for Hangzhou's economic and cultural development.
Digital resources
As of December 2018, Hangzhou Library has collected 103 digital resource databases, including superstar journals, Wanfang Data knowledge service platform (package library), Chinese online digital library, superstar reading show, Chinese poetry database, etc., including 10 characteristic databases and 15 open resource databases.
Support and guarantee
As of December 2018, Hangzhou Library has built a leading automatic service system in China, which has realized such services as joint bibliographic retrieval, centralized literature cataloging, universal library card, software and hardware platform sharing, document borrowing and returning, and Digital Resource Co Construction and sharing. The library has full coverage of wireless network, and is equipped with touch screen reading guide system, newspaper reading system, self-service book borrowing machine and self-service scanner. At the same time, it also provides a variety of open service facilities, such as book borrowing appointment, telephone renewal, online renewal, WAP website renewal, SMS renewal, 24-hour self-service library, etc.

Academic journals
Wenlan public opinion edition is a periodical in charge of Hangzhou culture, broadcasting and Tourism Bureau and sponsored by Hangzhou Library in 2019. It is a quarterly magazine with about 46 pages and 20000 words. Wenlan is retro in form and innovative in content. Combining with real-time hot spots and public opinion information, its columns are divided into: current affairs view, hang'erfeng, hot spot focus, public management, culture and tourism express.

In 2010, Hangzhou Library was designated as the second batch of "national key protection units of ancient books" by the State Council.
In 2011, after joint evaluation and deliberation at the meeting, it was awarded the honorary title of "Zhejiang civilized unit" by Zhejiang spiritual civilization construction Steering Committee.

Cultural tradition
Image logo
The image logo of Hangzhou Library is mainly in bright red. The overall design is composed of "fingerprint", traditional "figure" and "West Lake ripple" graphic elements through artistic deformation. The traditional Chinese character "Tu" is cleverly integrated into the fingerprint graphic elements. A round of "ripples" is a city of Hangzhou. The water of the West Lake is rippling.
