Canal Square is a landmark building commemorating the Grand Canal of Beijing and Hangzhou. There are two Grand Canal cultural squares in China, one is located in Tongzhou District of Beijing, the North terminal of the Grand Canal, and the other is located in Gongshu District of Hangzhou, the South Terminal of the Grand Canal.

Beijing canal culture square is located in the north of Dongguan bridge in Tongzhou District, adjacent to Tonghu road in the South and the East Bank of the canal in the West. It is the East starting point of Baili Chang'an Street and the Hebei starting point of Beijing Hangzhou Universiade. It covers an area of 530000 square meters, including 400000 square meters of green area. There is a colored archway facing south, on which is hung the plaque of "canal culture square" written by Ouyang Zhongshi.

Hangzhou canal culture square belongs to the first phase of the Grand Canal (Hangzhou section) comprehensive renovation project, which is built on the east side of the canal, and the most prominent one is the "Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal Museum". The square covers an area of 52000 square meters, with a construction area of 50000 square meters. It integrates many functions such as culture, commerce, sightseeing, leisure and entertainment.

Brief introduction to the square

The main road running through the North-South central axis is 1200 meters long and 50 meters wide, connecting the two round altars. On the north side of the altar is an arc-shaped water curtain, 70 meters long and 20 meters high. Two statues are set up on the main axis of the square. The statue at the entrance is called rebuilding heaven and earth; the large-scale theme statue between the two altars is the God of the canal.

With the arrival of spring, the "canal foreign trade clothing shopping festival" opened on March 15 has also attracted many citizens to participate in it. The commodities of this activity mainly focus on middle-aged and old people's clothing in foreign trade, as well as local products and all kinds of daily necessities. In addition to the price advantage, the quality is also guaranteed.
