Wanyao village, formerly known as Jiaotan or Jiaotan Wanyao, is located in Qiaodun Town, Cangnan County, in the middle and upper reaches of Yulong Lake Valley. It is the main base for firing civil blue and white porcelain in southern Zhejiang in Qing Dynasty. It was built in Hongwu Period of Ming Dynasty. Integrating folk houses, ancient ceramic production lines and ancient temples and theatres, it still retains the ancient village form with handicraft workshops as the center in the embryonic period of commodity economy. It is a living history museum, which can be regarded as one of the unique cultural landscapes.

geographical position

Ancient village bowl kiln is located in yucangshan scenic spot in Cangnan, less than 2 hours' drive from Wenzhou City. However, the bowl kiln is not well-known. In fact, its ceramic production can be traced back to more than 300 years ago. The village used to be the production site of folk kilns in Zhejiang Province, where tens of thousands of workers produced daily necessities and four treasures of study. Its products are exported to Taiwan and Southeast Asian countries. Nowadays, many villagers in Wanyao go out for business and mining, leaving only 70 people in the village. However, the original ecology of Wanyao ancient village makes it "blossom inside the wall and fragrance outside the wall". On the eve of May Day in 2005, the well-known Hong Kong director Guan Jinpeng took Wan Yao as one of the location locations of the movie "song of everlasting regret". The crew including the movie star Liang Jiahui once went to Wan Yao to shoot.

history

During the compilation of local chronicles, there was a bowl kiln in the south of Wenzhou, which had lasted for hundreds of years and produced a kind of thick bowl closely related to people's life. At that time, the common people divided the bowls into coarse bowls and fine bowls. Coarse bowls were the kind of bowls produced by the pier bowl kiln, while fine bowls were the relatively high-grade bowls in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province. According to my parents, in the early days of Pingyang and Ruian markets, most of the bowls sold were coarse bowls produced by Nangang pier and Beigang Shunxi bowl kiln. Nangang pier bowl kiln, formerly known as Jiaotan bowl kiln, has the largest output. Mr. Liu Shaokuan said in Shunxi porcelain factory record that "the prosperity of Pingyang porcelain industry began in Jiaotan, Nangang, and its export can be used in Zhejiang and Fujian kilns."

"Some mine owners who got rich first felt that they should keep the history of bowl kiln, so they raised money to build a folk ceramic culture museum," said a government official in Cangnan County. Wanyao museum was built three years ago, with a total investment of more than 1.3 million yuan and an area of nearly 2000 square meters. It is mainly composed of wooden buildings coordinated with the ancient villages, displaying folk ceramics in the early Ming and Qing Dynasties.

Cangnan County Tourism Bureau said that more than 30000 people visited Wanyao in the previous year. With the completion of the folk ceramic culture museum, the bowl kiln in the ancient village will attract more tourists against the backdrop of the old stage and ceramic workshop in the ancient village.

In China, there are many villages known as Wanyao. I know at least three of them, which are in Fujian, Zhejiang and Jiangxi. Wanyao village in Cangnan, Wenzhou, is one of the most worth visiting.

Bowl kilns are built according to the slope. Each kiln has eight or nine squares, so it is called class kiln. Ancient craftsmen made full use of water power to build eight level water pestles with 46 semi-automatic production lines.

Wanyao village is very small and secluded. Xiaowanyao village can't be found on the map of Wenzhou. Even many Wenzhou people don't know the existence of this village. There are only dozens of families. In the village with mountains and rivers on its back, there are springs in front of and behind each family's house. It is quiet and beautiful, just like a fairyland on earth. At the northernmost end of the village, there is a building similar to Minnan folk house in the late Ming Dynasty, which is said to be the oldest house in Wanyao. This old wooden house is still inhabited. Wanyao village is surrounded by magnificent three fold waterfalls. Diaojiaolou has the style of she village. It is built along the slope, just like a simple mountain city.

Historical evolution

According to records, in the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, in order to avoid the war, the Wu family and other ancestors in Liancheng County, Fujian Province moved all the way to Jiaotan, the south slope of Yucang mountain in Cangnan, Zhejiang Province. Attracted by the local resources, they settled down and re operated their old business of hand-made pottery, especially blue and white porcelain. From generation to generation, it reached its peak during the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty.

According to historical records, at that time, a small village called Wanyao attracted more than 40 people, with a population of 4000. In addition to three or four Inns, there are more than ten people who know a little "Mandarin" and do "translation" for merchants who don't know the local dialect. The remaining thousands of people are basically engaged in hand-made pottery. Merchants gathered in the village. Although there are as many as 18 dragon kilns (class kilns), manual production is slow, and there are many buyers. In order to collect enough goods, businessmen even live for half a year.

Historically, this small village has become a famous town in the south of the Yangtze River for its bowl making. In the past, Wanyao village was well-developed in transportation, with numerous hotels and restaurants. The stage was full of drama all night, and there were endless merchants from all over the country who came to buy bowls. At the beginning of this century, it was a large ceramic base in the south of the Yangtze River. Wanyao used to make the villagers rich. Girls from other places are proud to marry in Wanyao village, and girls from their own village are generally unwilling to marry outside. As time goes by and things change, Wanyao village no longer makes bowls. Only the old stage and old inn still stand quietly in the village. The only one left in bowl making is the old bowl making workshop. Visitors can make a bowl with mud germ for ten yuan. The feeling of being close to the earth is really intoxicating.

The village is secluded

The cottages surrounded by mountains have a history of hundreds of years. Hundreds of years of time in a hurry to slide down, the village road stone was polished, the roof of the eaves is still covered with wind and rain.

Warm and hospitable

The village road is very narrow. It only allows two people to pass side by side. There are often villagers with a little shyness in their eyes. They will warmly let the guests pass first. The tourists from outside always find a feeling of returning home. Walking around Wanyao village with a bag on your back every day, accompanied by quietness and company with chickens and ducks, the soul that has become messy in the city will be healed and comforted.

Wan kiln is located in a remote place, and its life is simple and lonely. In order to keep the guests, the village raised funds to build a stage. The villagers are rich and powerful. They build a stage in Banling and Xiayao at one time. In the second year, according to the custom of that time, the Sanguan hall was built opposite the stage (which means that the purpose of acting is to sacrifice ancestors and entertain gods, so as to avoid suspicion and damage the weathering). The three official halls and stage of the bowl kiln are of excellent workmanship. There are as many as 13 caissons, large and small, in the Sanguan palace. They are of different shapes, and none of them is similar. Caijing depicts characters, poems, flowers and plants in layers -- according to the research of experts in southern opera, there are at least 12 popular operas at that time. After its heyday, Wanyao gradually went up and down. In 1936, there was famine all over the country. Who bought the bowl? The kiln man had to keep the bowl at home, and finally stopped production. After the liberation, Wanyao had improved several times, successively set up production cooperatives and so on, and the household registration of villagers also moved to "residents". The production equipment has been improved, but the traditional porcelain making facilities are still in use. In 1958, water conservancy was built in the area, and the pier reservoir was built. According to the land use planning, the kiln was flooded.

Stilted building

The two-story hanging corner building of pure wood structure has eight sides and eight corners, and the eaves are upturned. On the second floor, the front porch is suspended in the form of overhanging. The three-dimensional shape of the whole building is light and empty. Standing on the front porch, it's like standing in the air. In addition, there are more than 300 early Qing style ancient buildings built on the mountain. Diaojiaolou, also known as "Diaojiaolou", is a traditional residence of Miao, Zhuang, Buyi, Dong, Shui and Tujia Nationalities. There are many Diaojiaolou in Western Hunan, Western Hubei and Guizhou. Most of the stilted buildings were built according to the situation of the mountain, in the shape of a tiger.
