Hailaer fortress site is one of the 17 military fortifications built by Japanese Guandong army in Northeast China, and it is the largest and the best preserved one among the similar sites in China. During the construction of the military fortification, the Japanese Kwantung Army captured tens of thousands of workers from the mainland of China. After the completion of the project, in order to keep military secrets, the Kwantung Army killed all the workers. Construction history
Hailaer Fortress (also known as Hailaer fortification area) was built in 1934-1937. It is a military fortification built by the Japanese Kwantung Army in Hailaer. It has five main positions and four auxiliary positions, covering an area of 21 square kilometers. The Beishan position is one of the most complex, large-scale, fully equipped and well preserved circular defense positions among the similar sites in China.
