The genuine gilded bronze chime bells of Ming Dynasty are expected to show their true features here
The renovation project of the North God kitchen and the North slaughter Pavilion of the temple of heaven will be completed, and it is expected to be officially opened to the public after the completion of the exhibition. The first-class cultural relic of the temple of heaven, the genuine gilded bronze chime bells of Ming Dynasty, is expected to show its true appearance here.
Wu Zhifang, acting director of the Cultural Research Office of the temple of heaven, said that there are two magic kitchens and Zaishu pavilions in the park, which are respectively located on the east side of the Yuanqiu altar and the east side of the Qigu altar. The North magic kitchens and the North Zaishu pavilions are actually the magic kitchens and Zaishu pavilions of the Qigu altar. "The slaughtering Pavilion is the place where animals are slaughtered, but it is also called the slaughtering Pavilion because the animals used to sacrifice to heaven can't use a knife," Wu said. The kitchen god is on the west side of the slaughtering Pavilion, and there are three main halls. In one of the main halls, the emperor wants to test the bean ceremony, that is, the emperor wants to check the food offered to God.
According to reports, the North God kitchen and North slaughter Pavilion had been occupied by social units until they returned to the temple of heaven. These two buildings were built in the Ming Dynasty, with a construction area of more than 3000 square meters. After returning to the temple of heaven, the overhaul was started, with a total investment of 37 million yuan and planned to be completed. The main renovation of the roof, facade oil, as well as the ground for maintenance and replacement.
After the renovation, the North God kitchen and the North slaughter Pavilion will be opened to the public as exhibition rooms.
According to Wu Xiaofang, there are more than 10000 cultural relics in the temple of heaven, including 700 cultural relics of different levels. However, due to the limited space and conditions of the exhibition room, there are only more than 200 cultural relics on display. The only first-class cultural relic in the temple of heaven, the Ming Dynasty gilded bronze chime bell, is only on display in the hall of praying for new year.
"The exhibition of first-class cultural relics, the facilities, environment and monitoring ability of the exhibition room need to reach a certain level." Wu said that at present, only Wenchang courtyard in the summer palace has the conditions to display first-class cultural relics in the park system. After the completion of the renovation and exhibition, beishenchu and beizaiyu Pavilion will become the highest level exhibition rooms in the temple of heaven, and all the technical defense equipment will reach the level of first-class cultural relics.
At that time, sacrificial relics, ceramics, calligraphy and painting will be displayed here. The exhibition hall has a capacity of 200 to 300 pieces. Some of the cultural relics collected in the temple of heaven will be displayed in stages here, including the genuine gilt bronze chime bells of the Ming Dynasty, which is the treasure of the temple of heaven.
The story of the gilded bronze chime bell being plundered
The Ming Dynasty gilded bronze chime bells in the temple of heaven were made in the Ming Dynasty. A total of 16 chime bells were made in the Ming Dynasty. From the Yongle Emperor Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty, the feudal emperors of all dynasties knelt down in the golden and resplendent Hall of praying for new year, praying for the blessing of heaven for the smooth weather of the country, the bumper harvest of grain and the peace of the country.
In the 26th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1900), during the invasion of China by the Eight Power Allied forces, British major Douglas plundered a Ming Dynasty gilded bronze chime bell from the temple of heaven and brought it to the then British colony of India. The chime bell was displayed as a trophy in the officers' Club of the Indian first cavalry Corps.
When young Indian Josh, who was in military service at that time, knew the story of the chime clock, he always wanted to return the precious cultural relic to its owner. Decades later, Josh became India's army chief of staff. In 1994, Josh led an Indian military delegation to visit China. Carrying this gilded bronze chime, he solemnly handed this special gift to Zhang Wannian, who was then chief of the general staff of the Chinese people's Liberation Army. Josh gave up his wish for many years.
According to Wu Xiaofang, after returning to the temple of heaven in 1994, the chime was only on display for one month in the east side hall of the temple of heaven's praying for new year. Later, considering the lack of technical measures, it was no longer on display. In 2012, when the grand exhibition of the hall of praying for new year opened, its replica appeared in the exhibition hall for the first time, replacing the genuine one to receive the attention of the world.
At present, the other 15 pieces of the Ming Dynasty gilt bronze chime bells are still missing.
