51 Shijia Hutong
Courtyard 51 of Shijia hutong is the former residence of Zhang Shizhao, Hong Huang's grandfather. Zhang Shizhao is a famous scholar in modern Chinese history. After the revolution of 1911, he once served as the chief of education. After liberation, Zhang Shizhao and his family settled in Beijing. In 1960, Zhang Hanzhi moved in with his parents. Later, Qiao Guanhua married Zhang Hanzhi and moved to courtyard 51 of Shijia Hutong according to Premier Zhou's instructions. His daughter Hong Huang was born here. In 1984, it was designated as a cultural relic protection unit in Dongcheng District of Beijing. But Hong Huang's mother, Zhang Hanzhi, does not own the property.
Courtyard structure
No. 51 of Shijia Hutong, No. 25 in the period of the Republic of China, is located on the north side of the western section of the Hutong, facing south. It used to be a quadrangle. When Zhang Shizhao moved in, he thought that there were too many houses for his family to live in, so he separated from the third courtyard and went to the South Gate of the Interior Department Street (that is, the back door of the original courtyard, which was No. A36 in the period of the Republic of China), forming two independent courtyards. As a result, No. 51 of Shijia Hutong formed a two-way courtyard. To the south of the street gate is Guangliang gate. Inside the gate is a "shadow wall" (demolished in 1985). On the west side of the gate, six South rooms and three North rooms form a courtyard. The two most west rooms of the south room are garages, with garage doors on the street. The north room is a hall, with a ridge of hard Hill tiles. There are three main rooms, three East rooms and three West rooms in the second entrance, surrounded by a plagiarism corridor, and one ear room in the left and right of the main room. The interior decoration of the main room is Qing Dynasty style: the partition of the northern part of the mansion is composed of two octagonal screen doors. On the top of the screen door is a pavilion style bookcase with a sky facing railing. In the Xili room, there is a staircase leading to the bookcase, and there are blue screen windows in the room. There are trees such as crabapple and apple planted in the courtyard, and the environment is quiet and elegant.
