It is one of the first batch of key cultural relics to be protected in the eastern province. The plane of Guifeng tower is hexagonal. The outer length of the first floor is 4.8m, the inner length is 1.6m, the wall thickness is 3.3m, and the height is 42.6m. The main gate of the pagoda faces east. The exterior of the pagoda is seven stories, and the interior is fourteen stories. One is bright and the other is dark. It is like bamboo. It rises step by step and gains points. Each floor is equipped with Chinese fir floor and paved with square bricks, and the dark floor has two upper and lower doors through the wall and four niches. There is a door on the exposed floor, which is connected to the platform on the other floor, and five door openings are connected to the external flat seat railings, which spiral up the stairs to reach the top floor. The flat tower belongs to the blue brick structure. The flat base and the eaves are stacked with dog tooth bricks, and the eaves are wider and thicker than other towers. The flat seat is equipped with wooden railings, and each floor has corner columns at six corners. The columns are decorated with cross frames, and the columns are connected with each other. It is a typical wooden pavilion style brick tower of Song Dynasty. The eaves of each tower are now decorated with gray glazed tiles, with water dripping from the tiles and bronze bells hanging under the corner beams. After being eroded by wind and rain in 857, the original top of Guifeng tower has been lost, the platform foundation has been buried by accumulated dust, the eaves and flat seat of the tower have collapsed, the tile surface has not been left, and the original wooden floors in each layer of the tower have been completely destroyed.
Guifeng tower has seven stories in appearance and fourteen stories in interior, which is a brick imitation Pavilion tower. The bottom of the tower is 5 meters long and hollow. The wall thickness of the bottom of the tower is 3 meters. There are through wall bricks that go straight up to the floor of each floor. Around the outer flat seat of the tower, the tower can go up to the top level step by step. Before restoration, the top of the tower was destroyed, with a residual height of 32 meters. Before the restoration, the body of Guifeng tower was basically in good condition without inclination and cracks. The original tower is built with yellow mud mortar. There are two kinds of bricks, green and red, with different sizes and more than 30 specifications. The top platform of the tower has been buried by accumulated soil, and there are two big leaf Ficus in the northeast corner. Based on the analysis of the beam holes of the first floor tower and the excavation of the tower foundation, it is proved that there should be secondary steps, that is, there are about 3 meters of wood beam and bucket arch tile surface at the six corners of the first floor. Each layer of the tower is decreasing, and there are cornices and flat seats on each layer. Due to years of disrepair, many of the eaves and flat seats before restoration have collapsed, especially in the southeast corner of the second floor. There are no weeds and Ficus Ficus on the tile surface of each floor, and the original wooden floor in the inner cavity of the tower has been destroyed.
repair
After the Heyuan City was built in 1989, with the support of relevant provincial departments, the Guifeng tower was approved for restoration. The principles of "repairing and restoring the old" and "not changing the original appearance of cultural relics" shall be strictly observed in the restoration works. There is a folk legend that "Heyuan tower has no top", but according to the research of relevant experts, the original top of Guifeng tower was only caused by "Renzi in the second year of Xianfeng, the first level of collapse of Guifeng tower" (see "Heyuan county annals"). The first level of collapse recorded in the county annals is the original top of the tower. And before the restoration, a large beam was found on the sixth floor of the tower cavity, which was the physical witness used to support the top of the tower. From the analysis of the Liang Fang holes on the outside of the first floor of the tower and the foundation stones unearthed around the tower foundation, it can be confirmed that the original secondary steps of the tower exist, that is, the eaves of the four meter wooden beam tower protruding from the six corners of the first floor, commonly known as the "Tower Skirt", which was restored according to the Song Dynasty style. In the process of maintenance and restoration, several chronological bricks were successively found. One of them is engraved with "brick of November 29, Renzi, Shaoxing second year"; the other is engraved with "Wanli 30th year repair". These two inscriptions not only solve the eternal mystery of the actual time when the tower was first built, but also confirm the historical fact that it was rebuilt once during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty. The restored Guifeng tower is more majestic and magnificent. Climbing the tower, you can have a panoramic view of the old and new urban areas. It has been opened as a tourist area, attracting a large number of Chinese and foreign tourists.
