Historical evolution

In 1960, Beijing University of technology was founded, with five departments of machinery, electrical machinery, radio, chemical engineering and mathematics.

In 1961, some students from Beijing Institute of architecture and engineering, Beijing Institute of technology and Beijing Normal University were transferred to Beijing University of technology. In the second half of the year, the Department of mathematics and physics stopped enrolling students for adjustment, and resumed in 1965.

In 1971, the school had four departments of machinery, electrical machinery, radio and civil engineering, and the former Department of chemical engineering was closed.

In 1972, Beijing College of business administration was merged into Beijing University of technology, and the preparatory course of Beijing University of technology was set up at the school site of Niujie nanhengxi street, Xuanwu District, Beijing. Later, it was renamed the freshmen department, and was abolished in 1986.

From 1978 to 1989, the school adjusted the setting of departments, including mechanical engineering department, industrial automation department, radio department, civil engineering department, chemical and environmental engineering department, applied physics department, computer science department, applied mathematics department, metal materials science and Engineering Department, thermal engineering department, management engineering department and Architecture Department.

In 1980, the municipal Party committee issued No. 109 document "suggestions on running Beijing University of technology well", which determined that Beijing University of technology was a key university under the municipal government.

In 1981, the University became the first batch of master's degree awarding units approved by the Ministry of education.

In 1984, the graduate department was established (the graduate school was established in 2011).

In 1985, the University became a doctoral degree awarding unit.

In 1990, the former school of economics and management of Beijing Union University was merged into Beijing University of technology. The six departments of the school and the Department of management engineering of Beijing University of technology were merged and adjusted into the Department of management engineering, the Department of foreign economic relations and trade, and the Department of Applied economics. So far, the school has 14 departments. In 1993, Beijing Institute of computer science was merged into Beijing University of technology to establish the school of computer science of Beijing University of technology. It was established at the original site of North West Third Ring Road in Beijing. In 1998, it moved to the school headquarters and merged with the Department of computer science and engineering and the computing center of Beijing University of technology to form the school of computer science. In 2000, the Management Cadre College of the state building materials administration (Beijing Graduate Department of Wuhan University of Technology), Beijing Graduate Department of North China University of water resources and hydropower, and Beijing Correspondence College of water resources and power were merged into Beijing University of technology, and the College of Higher Vocational Education of Beijing University of technology and the branch of Beijing University of technology were established.

In 1992, the school established the College of adult education. In 2003, it was renamed the Institute of continuing education. In 2004, the Institute of continuing education and the division of the University of technology carried out the integration of educational resources. After the integration, the main body of the division of the University of technology is the Institute of Continuing Education (known as the West District of the school of continuing education of Beijing University of Technology). At the same time, the west district management center of the school logistics group was established, which is responsible for the logistics service of the whole west district.

In 1993, Beijing University of technology tried to reform education and set up an experimental college. Since 2000, the experimental college has been run jointly by the school and private enterprises. In July 2004, the experimental college terminated the agreement on cooperation with private enterprises, moved from Langfang Oriental University Town in Hebei Province to Guanzhuang campus in Chaoyang District, Beijing, adjusted and merged with the College of Higher Vocational Education of Beijing University of technology, and became a wholly-owned experimental college directly under the nature of secondary college.

In 1996, Beijing University of technology ranked among the 100 key universities in the 21st century, and became the only one in Beijing Municipal universities to enter the national "211 Project" construction.

In 2005, the former Beijing Vocational College of art and design was merged into Beijing University of technology to establish the school of art and design of Beijing University of technology.

In 2006, he was selected into the National College Students' cultural quality education base.

In 2008, the school completed the tasks of badminton and rhythmic gymnastics in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In the same year, the University, as one of the first batch of universities, was selected as the "Beijing University industry research joint postgraduate training base"

In March, the Beijing Dublin International College of Beijing University of technology was established, which was jointly organized by Beijing University of technology and national Dublin University of Ireland.

In 2014, fan Gongji College of Beijing University of technology was established. The college is the experimental area of innovative talent training mode, which adopts independent teaching plan to cultivate leading talents in engineering field.

In 2016, the Department of information science of Beijing University of technology was established, and the reform of school department system was officially launched. In the same year, he was selected as the first national innovation and entrepreneurship typical experience university.

In January 2017, it was selected as one of the first batch of national demonstration universities to deepen the reform of innovation and entrepreneurship education. In September, it was selected into the first batch of "double first-class" world-class discipline construction universities.

In March 2018, the school was selected into the first batch of new engineering research and practice projects of the Ministry of education. In April, he became a founding member of Jinggang University Alliance. In December, the University was awarded the "National University with typical experience in deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform".

On July 6, 2020, it will be selected into the second batch of national intellectual property information service centers of universities.
