Hubei Academy of fine arts. Located in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, it is the only multi-disciplinary and multi academic higher art institution in Central China. One of the eight art academies in China. The predecessor of the school is Wuchang art school, which was founded in 1920, and later named "private Wuchang Art College" (Wuchang Art College for short). Wuchang art college is the first private art education school in modern China. As one of the three earliest art colleges (Beiping art college, Hangzhou art college and Wuchang Art College) and one of the birthplaces of modern and contemporary higher art education in China, it has a history of more than 90 years.

Historical evolution

In 1920, private Wuchang art college was founded.

In 1923, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the former national government, it was renamed "Wuchang art school" and "Wuchang art school".

In 1930, the former Ministry of education of Beijing government officially named it "private Wuchang Art College";

Wuchang art college is the first private art education school in modern China and one of the earliest art colleges in China.

During the Anti Japanese war from 1937 to 1945, the school moved to Jiangjin, Sichuan.

In 1946, after the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the school returned to Wuhan.

In 1949, Wuchang art college was merged into Zhongyuan University, and then Hubei Education College and central China Normal University. After several changes, it was renamed Hubei Art College in 1971. It enrolled workers, peasants and soldiers for three years.

In 1977, the University restored the undergraduate entrance examination system.

In 1978, the school restored its original name, Hubei Academy of art, which is divided into two parts: Art and music.

In 1985, with the approval of the National Education Commission, Hubei Academy of art was divided into two parts: Art and music. The art branch was established independently and named Hubei Academy of art.

On January 21, 1986, the college formally submitted to the Provincial Education Committee the report on the establishment of the Department and Department of Hubei Academy of fine arts, which systematically planned the construction of the party and government leadership system and the establishment of the party, government and teaching institutions for the first time.

On March 28, 1987, the first Congress of the college education trade union was successfully held, and the first committee of the trade union was elected; on April 11, the first committee of the College trade union was established; on September 27, the College held the first committee of Hubei Academy of fine arts of the Communist Youth League; on November 10, with the approval of the State Education Commission, the college added the major of fashion design, with a four-year schooling, and was approved to establish a preparatory environment Art design major.

In 1989, the Department of oil painting opened a four-year undergraduate mural class.

In October 1994, the college established the Department of fine arts on the basis of the public course Department of art history and theory. The next year, the major of fine arts enrolled 22 first undergraduate students, which was one of the earliest majors in similar colleges and universities in China.

In November 1995, the Department of Arts and crafts changed its name to the Department of design.

In 2009, the first phase of the new campus of the school was completed and put into use.

In 2015, Tanhualin art zone became one of the first batch of cultural industry demonstration parks in Hubei Province.

In January 2018, "fine arts" was selected as the first-class discipline construction discipline list in Hubei Province;

In November, the school was selected as the "Hubei Province model ideological and political theory teaching base".
