history
Since the Tang Dynasty, Buddhist and Taoist temples have been built on Dongyue mountain. The Ming Dynasty also carried out large-scale reconstruction and repair, so that Dongyue mountain formed a grand complex of "nine platforms, eighteen courtyards, 72 halls", and became a famous religious and cultural mountain. According to the records of Guyuan County annals of the Republic of China, Chu suiliang, a minister and famous calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, also wrote the inscription of "zhuanlundian" (yanluodian) for Dongyue mountain. During the ten years of turmoil, Dongyue mountain was also devastated. After 1982, with the further implementation of the party's religious policy, the monasteries in Dongyue mountain were restored, and gradually developed into garden style sightseeing and leisure tourist attractions.
Built in the Ming Dynasty, the Wulong stele is made of green bricks. It is 5.4 meters high, 9 meters wide and 2 meters thick. It consists of a wall, a wall seat and a wall top. On the front of the monument, 160 square bricks are used to make the "picture of fish and dragon game". Five flying dragons rise in the air, playing with fire beads, stretching their claws to spit out fog, and looming in the clouds; carp leaps out of the water, flying in the air, as if enjoying with tourists; the waves are turbulent, and pines and stones are set against each other. The twelve zodiac signs at the bottom make the whole body of the stele become one, which reflects the artist's ingenious conception and exquisite carving art.
Wuliang hall is located at the top of Dongyue mountain "tieshengling". There is another story about the origin of "tieshengling": it is said that in 1522, Mongolia attacked the Central Plains with troops, camped on Dongyue mountain, and prepared to capture Yuanzhou as a military base to attack the Central Plains. Because the city's military and civilian defense was tight and the city wall was strong, the temple on Dongyue mountain was burned. Ten years later, the people of Yuanzhou actively raised money and rebuilt it. Liu Yi, the new commander in chief, built a pier in the top Dongyue Temple, named Zhenlu pier, which means to suppress the invasion of the Mongols. The pier has 36 steps from the bottom to the top, with an angle of 60 degrees. There are chain handrails on both sides. People can only go up with the chain, so it is called "tieshengling" among the people. In 1903, after Dong Fuxiang, commander of the Empress Wu Wei army and governor of Gansu Province, returned to his hometown, he donated 600 liang of silver to build Wuliang hall on the pier, which became a lookout tower on Dongyue mountain.
