Discovery process
Before Columbus arrived in America, Mexico and Central America had a relatively developed prehistoric culture. This area, commonly known as Latin America, also experienced a long stone age. A large number of on-the-spot investigations by Latin American archaeologists have found that many precious cultural relics of prehistoric culture, as far as we know, have a history of more than 20000 years at the earliest. Later, on the basis of the study of these precious cultural relics, people generally made clear the development and evolution of prehistoric history in America. More interestingly, according to the judgment of some scholars (such as Lorena milabelle, a Mexican archaeologist and a member of the National Society of human and History), Asians had passed the Aleutian Islands to America 40000 years ago and lived a settled life with the local people. If there is a solid data basis for this statement, it can be proved that the history of the interaction between Asians and Americans is quite early.
What we appreciate here is a giant stone head more than 1000 BC, which was found in a certain area along the Gulf coast of Mexico. It belongs to the Olmec culture period.
In 1938, M. W. Stirling, a researcher at the Smithsonian Museum in the United States, discovered this tall stone head near the village of Tres saportes in the Gulf of Mexico. The head is chiseled out of basalt. It has a flat nose, thick lips, half open eyes and heavy eyelids. It is wearing a helmet with patterns on its head, and its ears are blocked by the helmet with cap ears. Obviously, this is the head of a young man. According to prehistoric archaeologists, this helmet is the safety helmet of ancient team members. At that time, a kind of sacred ball game was popular in this area, and the negative side was to be decapitated. This stone head may be related to the sacrifice of this kind of competition; however, some people think that this area is the sacrificial center of the ancient Olmec people, and this huge stone head may be a statue of their leader, or a memorial to the dead. In a word, it is related to sacrifice or some mysterious activities.
historical significance
It's amazing that this area is not rich in stones. If you want to carve such a huge stone statue, you have to transport it from tens or even hundreds of miles away. Under the conditions of productive forces at that time, you can imagine the great difficulties encountered in transporting such a stone. It would not have been possible if it had not been for the powerful spiritual force driven by religion. It can be seen that in the prehistoric art of Latin America, some of the art, especially the stone carvings, is closely related to witchcraft or some belief in mysterious forces, which is a common way for human beings to understand the world at first.
