development history
In the 20th century, the function of Madame Tussauds Wax Museum began to change. With the improvement of national quality and the development of news dissemination speed, it is not difficult to understand the latest news.
The display of Madame Tussauds is no longer a place to provide news to the public. Its function has gradually shifted to comment on public figures.
In the 20th century, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum experienced some major upheavals: it survived in the raging fire, earthquake and air bomb. Today's Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is bigger and better than before, which organically integrates colorful history and historical figures of the 21st century.
Works from Madame Tussauds in the 19th century are still on display, including death masks forced to be made during the French Revolution and a guillotine with Queen Mary's head cut off. Visitors can also see perhaps the earliest electric model in history: the mistress of Louis XV, nicknamed sleeping beauty, breathing naturally in her sleep. Other celebrities on display include stars and political figures in the entertainment and sports circles, such as Brad Pitt, Naomi Campbell, David Beckham, Prince William and so on. Each wax figure is vivid.
Production process
Making wax figure is a very complicated work. In order to make wax figure lifelike, we must keep improving every step of making. After measuring celebrities, artists have to take these precious data back to the wax workshop of the London museum, where they can create another "celebrity".
According to the recorded data and photos, the sculptor will first use clay to shape the head of the "celebrity", and then apply plaster to make a mold for the head. As long as the hot wax is poured into the plaster mold, and the plaster mold is removed after cooling, the original shape of the head of the wax figure will be shaped, and hands and feet can be made in the same way. In the early stage, the trunk needs the support of metal skeleton, and in the later stage, it is replaced by glass fiber.
Processing procedure
After the head prototype is made, it will enter the complex processing process. The coloring of eyes, hair and skin is extremely meticulous work. The eyeball is replaced by a kind of glass plastic (acrylic resin), which will make the eyes of "celebrity" look bright. The radial lines in the pupil are hand-painted with watercolor, and even the tiny blood vessels in the white eye are made of red silk. The production of teeth is more advanced, taking mold and dyeing, which is like making a pair of dentures for celebrities.
The hair of "celebrity" is based on the samples obtained from the time of fitting, looking for human hair with similar hair quality, and then implanted into the wax figure one by one by hand, and then cleaned, cut, and finally combed. The project can be described as a huge one. The "image" of wax figure lies not only in the form but also in the spirit. To make the "celebrity" look like a real person, the coloring of the whole body skin is very important. According to the skin color of the yellow race and the skin characteristics of the celebrities themselves, the sculptor will mix the appropriate color to paint the wax figure with oil paint. This oil paint will make the wax figure present a unique transparent texture of the skin, and fine tune the color according to the texture, so as to make the skin color of the famous person more realistic. After coloring, the head and limbs should be installed on the body made of glass fiber to complete the whole assembly.
Craftsmanship
Madame Tussauds (1761-1850) was born in Strasbourg, France. He is an outstanding French artist, famous for making wax figures. She learned the art of making wax figures with a doctor when she was young. Voltaire's wax figure is her famous work. At first, her mother worked as housekeeper at the home of Dr. Philippe Curtius, who was also a wax maker. During this time, Curtius taught her the art of wax sculpture.
In 1765, Cortes made a wax figure for Marie Jean Du Barry, Louis XV's mistress. The wax figure still on display is one of the oldest in many collections. Cortes founded the wax museum in Paris in 1770, which attracted a large audience at that time. The exhibition was moved to the Palais Royal in Paris in 1776.
Madame Tussauds created her first wax figure for Voltaire in 1777. During that time, she also made wax figures for other famous people, including Rousseau and Benjamin Franklin. During the French Revolution, she was forced by revolutionaries to make "wax figures of human heads" for the decapitated royal family members. Cortez died in 1794 and transferred his wax collection to Madame Tussauds.
In 1802, Mrs. Tussauds arrived in London. Later, because of the Anglo French war, she could not return to France. So Mrs. Tussauds traveled all over Great Britain and Ireland with her wax products. In 1835, at the age of 74, she set up her first permanent exhibition in Baker Street, London.
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is one of the most important tourist attractions in London with the London planetarium in its west wing, and has opened branches in Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Las Vegas, New York, Shanghai, Wuhan, Beijing, Chongqing and other places.
