Tomb of Huang Xing

Huang Xing's tomb is the cemetery of Huang Xing, a pioneer and leader of the 1911 Revolution, founder of the Republic of China and modern democratic revolutionist. It is located in Yuelu District, Changsha City, Hunan Province, north of Yunlu peak of Yuelu Mountain, above xiaoyueliangping and behind Lushan temple, with stone steps directly to it.

The cemetery is located in the west to the East and enters the cemetery by three hundred stone steps. Tower shaped steles stand in the tomb, which is a whole block of quadrangular opalescent rock. It is about 10 meters high and majestic. The front of the tomb is inlaid with a bronze tombstone and engraved with the inscription "Tomb of Huang Gong Keqiang". The tomb is surrounded by stone pillars and railings. In front of the tomb is a platform and a stone stool. The ground is paved with granite. The whole tomb covers an area of 1186.24 square meters, covered by green pines and cypresses.

On January 13, 1988, the tomb of Huangxing was announced by the State Council as a national key cultural relics protection unit.

Huang Xing (October 25, 1874-october 31, 1916), originally named Fu, changed his name to Xing, with the word Keqiang, the word luowu, the name Qingwu and Jingwu, was born in Changsha County, Hunan Province. Huang Xing was a pioneer and leader of the revolution of 1911, a modern democratic revolutionist, and the founding father of the Republic of China. He was often called "Sun Huang" together with Sun Yat Sen.

When the Nanjing Provisional Government of the Republic of China was established, Huang Xing served as the chief of the army and chief of staff, and was awarded the rank of Grand Marshal. When Yuan Shikai became emperor, he served as commander in chief of Yuan's army. He died in Shanghai on October 31, 1916, and was transferred to Changsha the following year. On April 15, he was buried in Yuelu Mountain of Changsha as an elder of the Republic of China. Huang Xing's works include complete works of Mr. Huang Keqiang, collected works of Huang Xing, unpublished manuscript of Huang Xing, and achievements of Mr. Huang Keqiang in calligraphy.

Three funerary objects

There are only three burial objects in Huang Xing's tomb. The first is the commanding knife he once used, which represents all the glory and dreams of his military career. The second is a souvenir given to him by his son, a shell barrel seized during the Nanjing war. The third is the pen holder Huang Xing used before he died.

Today, Huang Xing's tomb still stands on Yuelu Mountain in Changsha, Hunan Province. Not far below is the tomb of general Cai E, his good brother in the 1911 Revolution. Around them are the tombs of Liu Daoyi, Chen Tianhua, Jiang Yiwu and other comrades in arms. These once earth shaking children of Hunan, who recreate a new China, look down on the land of vicissitudes under them day and night.
