Karakul lake is located at the foot of mostag peak, the "father of glaciers". Because of its deep and dark water, it is named Karakul. Kirgiz means Black Lake.
In front of the lake is a vast grassland. In spring and summer, there are flocks of cattle and sheep on the grassland, waterfowls and ducks on the lake, and occasionally swans foraging here. The water of the lake is shining in the sunshine, reflecting the majestic mostag peak. It is said that there are water monsters in this lake. Of course, the truth is unknown, because no one has seen it after all.
The lake will change in different colors with the sunshine during the day. At ordinary times, the water of the lake is as clean as a mirror; when the clouds are thick, the water of the lake will become black as if it had been filled with ink, becoming a "Black Lake" worthy of the name. When the sun rises in the early morning, the floating lake, like the sky on the stage, is constantly changing: sometimes blue, sometimes yellow, sometimes orange, giving people the feeling of being in a fairyland.
Karakul Lake
Kalakul lake is a plateau lake. It is located at the foot of mostag and Gongger ice peaks in bulukou township of Pamir Plateau, aktao County, together with bulukul lake. The distance between the two lakes is only ten kilometers. However, the scenery of the two lakes is quite different.
Karakul lake is about 160 kilometers away from aktao county and 220 kilometers away from Atushi City, with an altitude of 3600 hundred meters, an area of 10 square kilometers and a water depth of more than 30 meters. There are lots of pastoral songs on the grassland and wild ducks on the lake. This scene is like a dream. No wonder even King Mu of Zhou in the 10th century BC sighed and sighed.
