Historical evolution
It is said that Sakyamuni's eldest disciple, monk Yin Guangjia ye, came to mount Jizu with his gold ragged cassock and his relic Buddha's teeth. There is a huge natural stone gate on the south side of the main peak, which is said to be the place where JIAYE Shouyi enters. There are two square pagodas with dense eaves in front of them, the mingyingguang twin pagodas, which are 4 meters high. They were built in the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and are well preserved.
In the Tang Dynasty, there were many Buddhist temples and quiet rooms. During the yuan and Ming Dynasties, eight temples and 71 jungles were built on the mountain. During the reign of Emperor Guangxu of Qing Dynasty, Jizu mountain developed into a grand building with 36 temples and 72 nunneries centered on Zhusheng temple, a total of 108 temples, with as many as 2000 or 3000 monks and nuns.
The scenery of Jizu mountain is comparable to that of Emei, Jiuhua, Wutai and Yandang mountains. The ancients called it "four views and eight sceneries". Jizu mountain is not only a beautiful scenery, but also a famous Buddhist holy land in western Yunnan. Cableways have been built on the mountain for tourists to visit.
The spread of Buddhism
According to the research, Buddhism was introduced here in the Shu Han Dynasty, and a small nunnery was built. In the Tang Dynasty, Xuanzang's "records of the western regions of the Tang Dynasty" recorded that "JIAYE was appointed to preside over Zhengfa, and had already gathered together. In the 20th year, he was disgusted with the world and was about to die, but he was going to Jizu mountain." JIAYE was one of the top ten disciples of Sakyamuni, and finally entered Jizu mountain. It is also said that after arriving at Jizu mountain, JIAYE entered into meditation and held the golden robes attached by the Tathagata for Maitreya's birth. Obviously, Jizu mountain, which was settled by JIAYE, is located in the state of Magadha in India. Jizu mountain in China was imitated by monks, and it was also recorded in the history of Chinese Buddhism as a Buddhist temple of JIAYE. In the Ming Dynasty, monks and nuns gathered on the mountain, and Buddhism was the most prosperous. "I don't know the number of Lin Gong's cyan temple, but the pagoda temple on the floating map is filled with Cang Cang." According to statistics, there are "seventy-two towers and courtyards" with "rules and regulations, empty and open systems" and "magnificent courtyards". In addition, there are many "quiet rooms". By the Qing Dynasty, there were 36 temples and 72 nunneries, and more than 5000 monks and nuns lived there in the prime of the year. Open the relevant local records, we can see that there are almost no mountains and temples in the history here.
The development of Buddhism in Jizu mountain may be related to the development of the south. As the political center of the Southern Song Dynasty moved southward, Jizushan gradually became known to more people, and it became even more famous in the Ming Dynasty. Secondly, many monks came to the Kaya Taoist center. Third, the natural environment here is secluded and beautiful, suitable for meditation. Fourth, it is a gathering place of Chinese Buddhism, Tibetan Buddhism and Yunnan Theravada Buddhism. The result of these factors is the prosperity of Buddhist culture here. There are many eminent monks in the past dynasties, but there is no detailed record. The famous people are Tang Dynasty
