The former site of the General Front Committee of Huaihai Campaign is located in caiao village, Dingli Town, Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province. The main building of the former site is located in yangjiataizi in the center of caiao village, which is an ancient building community in the late Qing Dynasty. It is a national key cultural relic protection unit, and is listed as one of the 100 red tourism key scenic spots by the national development and Reform Commission.

In November 1948, the Huaihai Campaign broke out. After the annihilation of the Huangwei corps, the leaders of Deng Xiaoping, Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, Su Yu and Tan Zhenlin, members of the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign, held a meeting at caiao yangtaizi, Dingli Town, Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province, to study the operational deployment of crossing the Yangtze River and the rectification plan of the troops, and took a group photo in the courtyard.

Historical evolution

On November 6, 1948, the Huaihai Campaign began. The two major field armies in East China and central China and the local armed forces of 600000 people fought an unprecedented strategic decisive battle with the 800000 troops of the Kuomintang. During this period, in order to facilitate the coordinated operations of the two major field armies in East China and central China, the Central Military Commission decided to set up a general Front Committee for the Huaihai Campaign composed of Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, Deng Xiaoping, Su Yu and Tan Zhenlin.

On December 16, 1948, Su Yu, acting commander and political commissar of the East China Field Army, arrived at yangjiataizi in Caiwa and set up a headquarters. He stayed in Caiwa for 28 days.

On December 17, 1948, Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, Deng Xiaoping and Tan Zhenlin successively arrived at Caiwa village, Dingli Town, Xiaoxian county to attend the meeting. During the break of the General Front Committee meeting of the Huaihai Campaign, the army reporters took pictures of the five leaders at the yangjiataizi of Caiwa village, Dingli Town, Xiaoxian County, leaving only one group photo of the General Front Committee.

On January 12, 1949, after the victory of the Huaihai Campaign, Su Yu led the East China Field Army to leave Caiwa. Before leaving, he presented a group photo of five members of the General Front Committee to the landlord Yang Zhimin.

In June 2006, the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign was announced by the State Council as the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.

In September 2010, it was included in the second phase list of national Red Tourism classic scenic spots by national development and Reform Commission, National Tourism Administration and other four ministries and commissions, and became one of the 100 red tourism classic scenic spots in China. It has been rated as the patriotism education base of Anhui Province and the party history education base for leaders at all levels of Anhui Province.

In 2013, the State Administration of cultural relics officially approved the protection plan for the former site of the General Front Committee meeting of Huaihai Campaign, which was prepared by Beijing Architectural Engineering Design Institute.

On July 1, 2016, the renovated area was open to the public for free. Five projects have been completed, including the main body of yangjiataizi cultural relics, indoor exhibition, connecting road from Expressway to scenic spot, 14000 square meters ecological parking lot and 900 square meters customer service center.

On July 6, 2016, it was rated as the third group of leading cadres' party history education base in Anhui Province.

On July 31, 2016, he was selected as the recommended route of Anhui Research and learning travel.

On August 17, 2016, it was rated as the traditional revolutionary education base of PLA Engineering Command College.

On December 30, 2016, it was rated as the National Red Tourism classic scenic spot.

In May 2017, Caiwa red tourism area was selected into the list of national preferred tourism projects.

In September 2017, Caiwa Huaihai Campaign red tourism scenic spot was selected into the list of the first batch of research travel practice bases in Anhui Province.

In November 2017, Caiwa red tourism area was rated as national AAA scenic spot.

Architectural pattern

The former site of the General Staff Headquarters of the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign has a building area of 900 square meters and a display area of 650 square meters. The main building was originally composed of nine small courtyards with three rows and three entrances. It is an ancient building community in the late Qing Dynasty, with 59 houses in total. Now the east side is three entrances, and the middle and west sides are two entrances. The Huaihai Campaign Memorial Hall is set up to introduce the main process of the Huaihai Campaign and the senior generals of the people's Liberation Army and the Kuomintang who participated in the campaign. There are the former residences of Liu Bocheng, Deng Xiaoping and other leaders, as well as the conference room of the General Front Committee. The peripheral scenic spots include Guozhuang village, zongwafang village, shibeizuo village, Changzhuang village and Gongzhuang village, covering a total area of about 6 square kilometers.

Collection display

The original houses and all kinds of articles used in the Huaihai Campaign were restored and displayed.

The house used for the meeting of the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign was well preserved, and there was an exhibition of the Huaihai Campaign inside.

There are more than 500 objects, more than 200 photos and 8 groups of sculptures on display.

In 1948, the second stage of the Huaihai Campaign ended with the complete annihilation of the Huang Wei Corps. In order to command the encirclement and annihilation of Du Yuming group nearby, Su Yu pushed the East China Field Army headquarters to Caiwa village, less than 20 kilometers away from the front position. After Su Yu led his troops to Caiwa village in Xiaoxian County, he found that the village was low-lying, and when there was a lot of rain, many houses were easy to get into the water. The headquarters is located in the yangjiayuan, the highest place in the village. The courtyard was surrounded by reeds for concealment. The Kuomintang knew that the headquarters of Huaye were in this area, and every day enemy reconnaissance planes were flying over the area. Every night when Su Yu was working in the headquarters, he covered the windows with sorghum straw to prevent the light from leaking out and attracting enemy planes. Because the enemy plane couldn't find the exact location of Huaye headquarters, they dropped bombs blindly. Liulou village near Caiwa was often bombed, but Caiwa village was safe.

On the morning of November 8, 1948, Su Yu and Zhang Zhen jointly sent a telegram to Mao Zedong, proposing to hold the Huaihai Campaign. With Mao Zedong's approval, the pattern of decisive battle took shape in Xuzhou. At Su Yu's suggestion, after studying with Liu Shaoqi, Zhu De, Zhou Enlai, and Ren Bishi, Mao Zedong decided to add Deng Xiaoping, Liu Bocheng, and Tan Zhenlin to establish a five person unified leadership organization, the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign, to command the Huaihai Campaign. At 18:00 on November 16, Mao Zedong sent a telegram to Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, Deng Xiaoping, and Tan Zhenlin, asking them to live in Suyu headquarters together Caiwa village, Xiaoxian County, Anhui Province, discussed the establishment of the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign.

In the early morning of December 17, 1948, Tan Zhenlin arrived from the Shandong Corps position near Chenguanzhuang. For the first time, the five leaders of the General Front Committee gathered together to discuss the war, which was also the only gathering during the Huaihai Campaign.

After breakfast, Liu Bocheng, Chen Yi, Deng Xiaoping, Su Yu and Tan Zhenlin, members of the General Front Committee of the Huaihai Campaign, held the only meeting of the whole committee during the Huaihai Campaign in yangjiataizi, Caiwa village.
