Zhou Ziqi (November 17, 1869 - October 21, 1923), a native of Shanxian County, Shandong Province, studied at Tongwen school in Beijing in his early years and then at Columbia University in the United States. In April 1922, he served as acting prime minister and Minister of education. From June 2 to 11, he also served as president of the Republic of China for 10 days and participated in the founding of Tsinghua University. He died on October 21, 1923 and was buried on the hillside of Jiulong Mountain in the west of Chengzi Village, Mentougou, western Beijing.
Zhou Ziqi's tomb faces east in the west, with his back on the Jiulong Mountain and his front on the surging Yongding River. Covering an area of about 30000 square meters, the cemetery is more than 200 meters long from east to west and 150 meters wide from north to south. It has been surrounded by barbed wire. In the tomb area, there is a forest of pines and cypresses with green branches and leaves. In front of the tomb is a magnificent four pillar and three stone archway. On the middle gate is the regular script "Zhou's tomb road", with "an Zhai" on the left and "Jia Cheng" on the right, signed as "San Shui Liang Shi Yi ti". Couplets are engraved on the square pillars. The first couplet is "mountain control belt and river Dieling city", and the second couplet is "Zhen Yan Shao Lu Yan Hua Qi", which is said to be written by President Xu Shichang of the Republic of China. There are eight prisms on the left and right sides of the archway, one Huabiao. The lower part is xumizuo, which is engraved with auspicious cloud pattern, and the top of the column is wangtianhou. There is a stone Shinto in the middle and a stone platform behind the archway. Step up to the top. The diameter of the top is 4 meters, the bottom is a cylindrical base made of big Bluestone, and the top is sealed with cement, which is hemispherical. In front of the tomb, there were stone tables and incense burners, surrounded by stone pillars and iron chains. Cemeteries are planted with pines and cypresses. Only the memorial archway, Baoding, Huabiao, and some stone columns and iron chains remained. The tomb was destroyed twice during the cultural revolution.
The whole mound, like a fortress, is a typical tomb system in the early Republic of China. There are also stone tables and incense burners in front of the tomb, and more than 100 Pinus bungeana trees are planted on the hill package behind the tomb. A square epitaph with a side length of 0.62 meters was unearthed from Zhou Ziqi's tomb. It records Zhou's life and is now preserved in Mentougou Museum.
