Seventeen Arhats and eighteen Arhats are two heroes in ancient China. However, the specific names of them have always been controversial. Some people say that they are Budao and Xuanzang of Tang Dynasty, but Emperor Qianlong of Qing Dynasty clearly defined them as JIAYE and Maitreya.
In Buddhist stories, there are sixteen Arhats. Because after Buddhism was introduced into China, according to the custom of symmetrical arrangement on both sides, the sixteen Arhats were arranged on both sides, and only eight Arhats could be arranged on one side. In dialects (especially in southern Hong Kong and Guangdong), the word "Ba" means "Fa". Subconsciously, I really hope to get rich. But in ancient Chinese, "eight" means separation. Therefore, in the later sculpture, people added two new statues in front of the sixteen Arhats, and the arrangement was nine on one side, because in old China, the "Ninth Five Year Plan" represented the supreme power and the supreme, and because "Nine" and "jiu" were homophonic, they also represented the everlasting and everlasting. The new two Arhats are dragon subduing arhat Kaya (calm attitude, raise your hand to your ears) and tiger subduing arhat Maitreya (holding a ring and sitting obliquely, glaring and grinning).

Five hundred Arhats
Setting up a place
Generally speaking, only large temples have Rohan hall. Arhat is the short name of arhat. In Mahayana Buddhism, arhat is lower than Buddha, and Bodhisattva is the third class, while in Hinayana Buddhism, arhat is the highest fruit that can be achieved in practice. According to Buddhism, to get arhat's status is to give up all troubles, to be supplied by heaven and man, and to stop reincarnation of life and death.
Five hundred Arhats usually refer to the five hundred Arhats of the great bhikkhs who are often enlightened by the Buddha in the world, or the five hundred Arhats who gather Buddhist classics after the Buddha's nirvana. In ancient India, "five hundred" and "eighty-four thousand" were used to describe many meanings, which is very similar to the Chinese ancients who used "three" or "Nine" to express most of them. Therefore, "five hundred Arhats" is not necessarily five hundred, and their names are not clear.
Because the number, names and statues of Arhats are not based on the classical rituals, the number, scale and figures of Arhats in temples may be different.
