In December 1936, the fourth simple normal school of Hubei Province was founded. It has been restructured and renamed the fourth Normal School of Hubei Province, Jiangling Normal School of Hubei Province, Jianghan Normal College (undergraduate), Jianghan normal college, Jingzhou normal school and Jingzhou branch of China Normal University.

In 1978, the State Council approved the establishment of Jingzhou teachers college.

In March 1999, the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China approved the establishment of Jingzhou normal college on the basis of Jingzhou normal college and obtained the right to confer undergraduate degrees.
