It is said that Zhuge Liang besieged Meng Huo's army in Shuanghe town during his southern expedition. Meng Huo had no hope of breaking through the encirclement, and his defense was weak, so he threw poison into the moat outside the town to stop the attack of the Shu army. After Zhuge Liang found out the situation, he ordered the soldiers to pretend to be poisoned and induce Meng Huo to shoot an arrow. When Meng Jun's arrow was exhausted, Zhuge Liang came out of the city and said to Meng Huo in a loud voice: "general Meng, there is poison in the water inside and outside the city. If you have no food, you will be defeated. But I don't want to take advantage of the danger of others to take your city. I have ordered Ma Dai to return to Yizhou and bring a well of water, which will be placed outside the east gate for your army and horses to drink. Besides, I will send you 100 tons of rice and 100000 arrows to relieve your urgent need. It also shows that our Shuhan people will always be in peace with you. " After that, Zhuge Liang ordered the troops to withdraw. Meng Huo opened the gate of the city and carried rice and arrows. He saw a well outside the east gate. The spring in the well was sweet and clear. Meng Huo was so moved that he sighed and said, "is it not God's help that Zhuge Liang can move the well here?" So he surrendered. Since then, the well has been kept outside Shuanghe town and has been preserved to this day.
