Taipei City Council, located between the National Father Memorial Hall and the 101 building, is the highest legislature of Taipei city of the Republic of China and the city's leading public opinion organ.

In 1949, the national government moved to Taiwan and implemented local autonomy in 1950. Taipei city established a City Council of a city under the jurisdiction of a province, but it lacked legal basis and could not be guaranteed by law. Even if the resolution was not necessarily adopted by the administrative organs, it was often changed by the higher authorities. In 1967, Taipei city was transformed into a "municipality directly under the central government". With the reform, the authority of Taipei city increased, and the authority of Taipei City Council also expanded. After Taiwan's "municipal autonomy law" was passed in 1994, the authority of Taipei City Council was officially protected by law. The legislative power of Taipei City Council in local laws and regulations and the authority of relevant local legislatures have been greatly improved.
On December 25, 2018, the county and city councils in Taiwan held elections for their presidents and vice presidents. Chen Jinxiang is the speaker of the Taipei City Council and ye Linchuan is the vice speaker.

Administrative unit
In addition to the Secretary-General and deputy secretary-general, the Taipei City Council also has an accounting office, a personnel office, an information office, a law research office, a public relations office, a document office, a general affairs office, a discussion office and other administrative units, as well as offices of the committees on Civil Affairs, financial construction, police, health, education, transportation, laws and regulations, procedures, and discipline.
About reelection
Re elected every four years at the same time as the mayor. Since Taipei was upgraded to "municipality directly under the central government", the City Council elected in 2002 is the ninth one. The tenth City Council will be elected in 2006.
Location
The earliest meeting place in the past used to be Zhongshan Hall. Later, in 1964, the City Council was set up in the Council building on Zhongxiao West Road at the intersection of Zhongshan South Road and Zhongxiao East Road. Since 1990, it has been moved to the Council Building of yan'ai road at the junction of Yixian Road and the fourth section of Ren'ai Road, adjacent to the Taipei municipal government.
Division of political forces
The ninth (elected in 2002) Taipei City Council has 52 members, including 20 members from the Chinese Kuomintang, 17 members from the Democratic Progressive Party, 8 members from the people first party, 5 members from the new party and 2 members without party membership. In addition, Fei Hongtai, Wang Shijian and Xu Guoyong were elected as the sixth public opinion representatives of Taiwan in 2004. Qin Lifang, Ouyang long, Wang Xinyi and Wang Zhibing joined the Chinese Kuomintang during their term of office. Therefore, there are 49 city members in Taipei City Council, including 24 members from the Chinese Kuomintang, 15 from the Democratic Progressive Party, 6 from the people first party and 4 from the new party.
