Guizhou University, or guida for short, was founded in 1902 and located in Guiyang City, Guizhou Province, China. It is a national key comprehensive university under the "211 Project" jointly built by the Ministry of education and the people's Government of Guizhou Province. It is a key comprehensive university under Guizhou Province and the first batch of national undergraduate universities. It is the key construction University of "excellent legal talents education and training plan", "excellent agriculture and forestry talents education and training plan" and "excellent engineer education and training plan". [1] In 2012, it became the leading University of the collaborative innovation center of the "2011 plan" of the Ministry of education, and was selected into the "comprehensive strength improvement project of universities in the central and western regions" of the Ministry of education. It became one of the 14 high-level universities that the Ministry of education focused on building in the western region, a member of the "alliance of universities in the central and western regions", and one of the earliest universities in China.
Guizhou University went through the period of Guizhou University, provincial Guizhou University, national Guizhou Institute of agriculture and technology, national Guizhou University and so on. It was named Guizhou University in October 1950. It merged with Guizhou Agricultural University and Guizhou University of technology and became a University jointly built by the Ministry of education and Guizhou Provincial People's Government in December 2012.
The school has 54279 full-time students, 6533 graduate students and 3922 in-service staff. The school covers an area of 4285.56 mu (excluding the second phase of the new campus expansion project). At present, the library has more than 3.1 million paper documents, 2.01 million Chinese and foreign e-books and 43 Chinese and foreign databases.

Historical evolution
In 1902, on the basis of Guishan Academy (founded in 1735), governor Deng Huaxi of Guizhou formally requested the establishment of Guizhou University in his memorial. Deng Huaxi appointed alternate Dao yinjiazhao as the supervisor and employed Zhou Gongshou and Liao hang as the teachers.
In 1904, Cao Hongxun, governor of Guizhou, reorganized Guizhou University and named it "Guizhou University".
In 1905, 20 students were sent to Japan to study in two groups, led by Zhou Gongshou, a teacher of the school. Yin Dusheng, Zhou buying and Wang Peifen, among the students who went to Japan, actively promoted new learning and taught in schools after returning home, becoming the backbone of Guizhou University in its early years. In November, Guizhou University was renamed "preparatory section of Guizhou University".
In 1906, CEN Chunji, then governor of Guizhou Province, reorganized the Preparatory Department of Guizhou Higher School and changed it into Guizhou Normal School.
In 1909, Guizhou Normal School was changed into "Guizhou government mining secondary school".
In May 1912, the mining school was forced to close down. All the students who have not graduated and teaching equipment are transferred to Guizhou provincial agriculture and forestry school.
In 1916, it was renamed Guizhou Provincial Guiyang a agricultural school. In 1927, it was ordered to close down and merged into the provincial Guizhou University established in March 1928.
In June 1926, Zhou Xicheng presided over the administration of Guizhou, and closed Guizhou public law and politics school, provincial No.2 Middle School and Guiyang A-type agricultural school. Taking provincial No.2 Middle School as the school site, Guizhou University was established in March 1928 with Zhou Gongshou as the president. There are economics, medicine, civil engineering, mining and arts, science two preparatory courses.
In May 1929, the order of the provincial capital was in chaos. Zhou Gongshou went to the post of president, and the students went home one after another. Guizhou University was forced to close down in January 1931, and its site was used to run Guizhou Provincial Guiyang senior high school.
In the winter of 1939, the first provisional Council of Guizhou Province put forward the proposal of "setting up Guizhou University" to cultivate talents for the war of resistance against Japan and the founding of the people's Republic of China. In January 1940, the Ministry of education of the national government deliberated and the Executive Yuan approved the decision to set up the national Guizhou Institute of agriculture and technology, and chose Huaxi town of Guizhu County as the site of the Institute.
In May 1942, the Executive Yuan decided to establish the national Guizhou University, and the national Guizhou Institute of agriculture and technology was merged into the national Guizhou University. Besides the College of agriculture and technology, national Guizhou University has set up two colleges of Arts, science, law and business. On May 22, the Executive Yuan appointed Zhang Tingxiu as president of national Guizhou University, and the University formulated the four character motto of "perseverance and steadfastness". By June 1948, the university had four colleges, 16 departments, one specialized subject and one preparatory class.
During the Anti Japanese War, men from Guizhou University joined the Chinese expeditionary army and went to the front line of Anti Japanese war. During the civil war, Shi Jian, chairman of the student autonomy Association of Guizhou University, carried out a series of patriotic democratic movements, organized "plateau society", "democratic society revolutionary society" and other democratic groups, and held several demonstrations against violence and oppression, among which the anti hunger movement in March 1949 was the most powerful.
On November 25, 1949, Guiyang Military Control Commission officially took over national Guizhou University, which ended in the period of the Republic of China.
In October 1950, according to the regulations of the Ministry of education, national Guizhou University was renamed Guizhou University. In November 1951, Chairman Mao Zedong wrote the name of "Guizhou University" in his own handwriting, becoming one of the few universities with Chairman's title.
In 1952, northern Sichuan University (Department of Agronomy) was incorporated into Guizhou University. In 1953, most of the colleges and departments of higher education were merged into Guiyang Normal University, some engineering majors into Chongqing University, agronomy into Southwest Agricultural University, foreign languages into Sichuan University, engineering departments into Yunnan University, law department into Southwest College of political science and law, and Economics Department into Southwest College of Finance and economics. In 1954, Guizhou Agricultural College was established in the former national Guizhou University on the basis of the original Department of agronomy.
On July 3, 1958, the Guizhou provincial Party committee decided to rebuild the branch of Guizhou University and Guiyang Normal University in Guiyang Normal University, taking the College of Arts and science of Guizhou University, which was adjusted to Guiyang Normal University in 1953, as the basic framework. There are eight departments and nine majors in Chinese, foreign languages (English and Russian), history, geography, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology. In August, 721 new students were enrolled.
In 1997, the return of the Agricultural College of Guizhou University inherited the most original major of Laogui university agronomy and the site of Laogui University.
In 1959, GUIZHOU UNIVERSITY FOR NATIONALITIES (now Guizhou University for Nationalities) was merged into Guizhou University. In 1974, it was separated from Guizhou University. A month later, Guizhou University moved to a new campus in Huaxi District. In 2001, it became the key construction University of the Ministry of education in the "western development".
In August 2004, the Ministry of education and Guizhou provincial government established a new Guizhou University on the basis of the former Guizhou University and Guizhou University of technology.
On September 8, 2005, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the Ministry of Finance and the national development and Reform Commission, Guizhou University and 11 universities including China University of political science and law entered the ranks of "211 Project" university construction.
In 2006, he was selected into the National College Students' cultural quality education base.
In 2010, it became a pilot University of independent selection and enrollment (independent enrollment).

In March 2013, the university entered the first batch of "excellent legal personnel education and training plan" universities.
In July, it initiated the creation of the "Midwest University Alliance" and established it as the Secretariat unit.
In January 2014, the Ministry of education and the Ministry of science and technology approved Guizhou University to build a national new rural development research institute.
In December 2015, Guizhou University and Guizhou Provincial People's Hospital signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly hold the Medical College of Guizhou University.
On November 23, 2016, the tea College of Guizhou University, jointly built by Guizhou University and Meitan County People's government, was officially unveiled.
In September 2017, it was selected into the list of the first batch of "double first-class" world-class discipline construction universities.
In November, the school was awarded the first national civilized campus honorary title. In December, Guizhou University New Media Alliance, the first new media alliance of Guizhou universities, was established.
In January 2020, it will be selected as the national "111 plan" subject innovation and talent introduction base.
