On July 18, 2017, Wu Qingyou, founder and chairman of Chengpin bookstore, suddenly fainted in his office in Taipei City on the evening of 18. After the staff reported the case, the ambulance man rushed to the scene and found that he had no breathing and heartbeat, and was still unable to recover from the first aid such as cardiac shock. He was 67 years old.

Creating history
Wu Qingyou, the founder of Chengpin, was born in Mashagou, a poor fishing village in the west of Jiangjun Township, Tainan County. His father, Wu Yinmao, was the first person in his family to receive higher education. Due to congenital heart disease, Wu Qingyou didn't have to be a soldier. After graduating from Taipei Polytechnic College, he joined Chengjian company, which specializes in catering equipment of tourist hotels, and started as a salesman. At the age of 31, he took over all the shares of the company, and his business is booming, accounting for 80% of the market of large tourist hotels in Taiwan. At that time, Taiwan's high-end hotels were becoming saturated, and the development of Chengjian reached its limit. Wu Qingyou turned to Chengpin.
In March 1989, Wu Qingyou founded Chengpin bookstore, which is mainly composed of architecture and art books. In 1991, the company expanded its business and established a milestone in the operation of bookstores in Taiwan by combining the book area, art and culture space and gallery. Due to the unique positioning of Chengpin bookstore and the firm commitment of its operators to the concept, the booksellers have become more and more famous in the market soon after its opening. Chengpin company takes Nanjing as the first choice for investment and cooperation, and plans to open the first Chengpin bookstore in mainland China in Nanjing.
