historical origin
It is located at the boundary between Gonghe County and Huangyuan County of Hainan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. It was called Chiling in ancient times. It was the watershed between the agricultural area in the east of Qinghai and the animal husbandry area in the West. It was also the throat leading to Tibet through Xining in ancient times. It is said that Princess Wencheng married Tubo in the Tang Dynasty. When she came here, she saw the East and west of the mountain. She was very sad and missed her hometown. Lu Dongzan, the Tibetan emissary, was afraid that the princess would not be able to do so. He secretly replaced the sun moon mirror with a stone mirror and said to the princess, "your parents respect you as the master of the world, but they give you the stubborn stone as a dowry. The intention is to make you go to Tubo like a stone. I don't want you to change your mind.". After hearing this, the princess threw two stone mirrors, one in the East and the other in the west, and decided to go west. Later generations called Chiling the sun moon mountain. It is not known when the name of Riyue mountain began. According to a brief history of Ganning, in the fourth year of emperor Xianzong of the Yuan Dynasty (1254), mengge met all the Khan in kukunuoer and offered sacrifices to heaven in Riyue mountain. Probably the name of Riyue mountain was already in Yuan Dynasty.
Later repair
In 1950, the people's Liberation Army built the Qinghai Tibet highway and set up a road building monument here. In 1983, during the general survey of cultural relics, at the top of xiyahuo mountain on the highway, the base, body and forehead of the Tang fan boundary stele erected in the 21st year of Kaiyuan period of the Tang Dynasty and some complete bricks of the Tang Dynasty were found. In 1983, Huang Jingbo, governor of Qinghai Province, proposed to build the sun moon Pavilion, which was completed in 1990. The road building Monument and the Tang Dynasty boundary monument were respectively placed in the pavilion, and a memorial hall was built under the pavilion. In the hall, there were large porcelain murals of Princess Wencheng's Tibetan style produced by the Qinghai Federation of literary and art circles and the Wutun Regong Art Research Institute, displaying relevant cultural relics. The construction of the sun moon Pavilion is not only a place to commemorate Princess Wencheng's contribution to Sino Tibetan cultural exchange, but also a place to commemorate the glorious deeds of the people's Liberation Army's arduous struggle in Tibet and to educate future generations to inherit the revolutionary tradition. At the same time, it has become a famous tourist attraction in Qinghai Province.
