Historical evolution
Jiangsu Teachers College
In the early days of liberation, in order to build a new China, a large number of cadres transferred to local areas. The Central Military Commission decided to set up cultural schools for transferred cadres in some provinces and cities of the country to cultivate and improve their cultural quality. In August 1952, the southern Jiangsu military region established the rapid middle school for transferred cadres in Wuxi. Lieutenant General Liu Xiansheng of the southern Jiangsu military region was the first principal.
In November 1952, the rapid middle school for demobilized cadres of the southern Jiangsu military region and the professional cadre training brigade of the northern Jiangsu military region were reorganized into the rapid cultural school for demobilized cadres of Jiangsu Province.
In January 1953, Jiangsu Provincial fast track secondary school for demobilized cadres was established, with Zhu Yamin as the principal.
On June 28, 1956, Jiangsu Provincial People's Committee decided to prepare for the construction of Wuxi teachers college. On August 24, Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education decided that before the formal name of Wuxi normal college was submitted to the State Council for approval, the name of Wuxi middle school teacher training class in Jiangsu Province should be used temporarily. The teacher training class has three majors, and 600 students were admitted from the national college entrance examination that year. The former middle school teacher training class in Jiangsu Province still exists because the teaching task has not been finished.
In August 1957, with the approval of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China, Jiangsu normal college was established on the basis of the former middle school teacher training class in Jiangsu Province.
Xuzhou Normal University
In December 1957, Jiangsu Provincial People's Committee decided to move Jiangsu Teachers College from Wuxi to Xuzhou in 1958.
On April 16, 1959, Xuzhou Teachers College moved to Xuzhou from Yunhe Town, Pixian County, and merged with Jiangsu Teachers College, which was renamed Xuzhou teachers college. In the summer vacation of that year, we began to recruit four-year undergraduate students majoring in Chinese literature and mathematics. After more than a year, the University developed into a fairly large normal university with 5 departments and 7 subjects, and was also the only independent undergraduate university in Xuzhou at that time.
In the spring of 1962, at a meeting of the State Council to discuss the adjustment plan of colleges and universities, Premier Zhou Enlai clearly pointed out that Xuzhou has a vast territory and universities. Xuzhou Normal University has been able to continue to run in Xuzhou and develop.
During the cultural revolution, Xuzhou Normal University suffered a lot. The normal order of teaching and scientific research was destroyed, and the enrollment system, teaching plan, and teaching management were deeply disturbed. In 1966, it stopped recruiting students, and in 1972, it began to recruit ordinary college students.
During this period, according to the needs of the country, the transistor factory was founded in 1970.
In 1979, it began to recruit postgraduates.
In 1981, the University became the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China.
In 1982, it jointly ran a school with the Ministry of coal and recruited 200 undergraduates every year.
In 1985, the joint school with Xuzhou City recruited 200 directional students. During this period, the school built a new teaching experimental building, added two master's programs, and merged another Xuzhou Teachers College, which further expanded the scale of the school.
Xuzhou Normal University
On April 4, 1996, with the approval of the former State Education Commission, the University changed its name to Xuzhou Normal University.
In 1999, Xuzhou polytechnic school, which belongs to the former Ministry of coal, was merged into Xuzhou polytechnic school.
In 2000, the school established a public private secondary college, science and technology college.
In 2004, the University won the excellent grade in the undergraduate teaching evaluation organized by the Ministry of education.
Jiangsu Normal University
In November 2011, the Ministry of Education approved the renaming of Xuzhou Normal University as Jiangsu Normal University.
In the same year, the school was identified as the first batch of "language application training base of the State Language Commission" by the Ministry of education and the State Language Commission, and also the only university in Jiangsu Province.
In January 2013, he was selected into the National College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program.
In May, the school was identified as the first batch of social work professional training base of the Ministry of civil affairs.
On September 12, 2014, the Ministry of education and Jiangsu Province jointly built Jiangsu Normal University.
In November 2017, the University was awarded the first national civilized campus honorary title.
In November 2018, Jiangsu Normal University was selected as the first batch of excellent traditional Chinese culture inheritance bases of the Ministry of education.

According to the official website of the school in November 2019, there are 1636 full-time teachers, 335 professors and 576 associate professors in the school, 55.7% of them are senior professional and technical teachers, 58.5% of them are doctors, and 41.5% of them are teachers with overseas research experience. At present, our school has 12 high-level talents such as the national "ten thousand talents plan". One person has been selected for the new century talents project, one person has been selected for the "young and middle-aged science and technology innovation leading talents" of the innovative talents promotion plan of the Ministry of science and technology, five persons have been selected for the "new century excellent talents support plan" of the Ministry of Education, and two persons have been selected for the "100 talents plan" of the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
