Xinjin airport was built in 1928. After the beginning of the Pacific War, it was designated as the Allied air force base, where the US "super air fortress" B-29 bombing fleet was stationed. When the Allies bombed Japan, they set sail from the airport. He made an indelible historical contribution to the counterattack and overall victory of World War II.
At present, the Xinjin branch of Civil Aviation Flight College of China is built here. There are 36 airplanes of 4 types and 6 simulators for teaching and training. It has become the pilot training base with the largest number of training pilots and high reputation in China, providing excellent pilots at home and abroad.
Xinjin Airport
Xinjin airport, located in Xinjin District of Chengdu City, was built in 1928 and designated as an air force base after the Anti Japanese war. In 1928, in order to set up the air force, Liu Wenhui, commander of the 24th army of the Kuomintang, destroyed 1000 mu of qingmiaogou field behind the xiajie street of the old county in Xinjin district and built Xinjin airport. The prototype of Xinjin airport was established.
In early 1939, the national government ordered the Sichuan provincial government to expand Xinjin airport for the first time. More than 100000 migrant workers from 16 counties, including Xinjin, Wenjiang, Pixian, Xinfan, Qionglai, Pujiang and Shuangliu, were recruited to collect 3292 mu of farmland, repair runways and build aircraft sheds. Construction started in may of the same year and was completed in February of the next year.

History
After the Pacific War broke out in December 1941, the Allied forces opened up the Asian battlefield. General Stilwell and brigadier general Chennault in China actively supported China's resistance against Japan and urged the president to build an airport in China as soon as possible and deploy hundreds of heavy bombers to directly bomb Japan.
On February 6, 1943, Arnold, head of the U.S. Army's aviation forces, paid a 34 day secret visit to Chongqing. After consulting with Chiang Kai Shek, he built bomber bases in Xinjin, Qionglai, Pengshan and Guanghan around Chengdu, and built fighter bases in Chengdu, Deyang and Wenjiang.
At the beginning of 1943, the Sichuan provincial government, under the secret order of the KMT's highest authorities, recruited 220000 migrant workers from 22 counties, including Xinjin, Chengdu, Huayang, Wenjiang, Guanghan, Pixian, Pengshan, etc., to expand Xinjin airport for the second time. Most of the funds needed were allocated by the US aid to China, including one main runway, two auxiliary runways, three large oil depots, two radio stations, six ammunition depots, one large hangar for 35 B-29 aircraft, one air terminal for the second time There are more than 10 hidden hangars, one machinery plant, two power plants, and six guest houses. So far, Xinjin airport covers an area of nearly 10000 mu.
According to the requirements, the expanded Xinjin airport has 9035 mu, the main runway is 2600 meters long and 60 meters wide, and the reinforced concrete foundation is 1 meter thick. Xinjin airport, Qionglai airport, Pengshan airport and Guanghan airport were completed in only 10 months. Xinjin airport became the largest bomber airport in Asia at that time.
In the second half of 1943, the 42-6331 B-29 heavy bomber landed safely at Xinjin airport on the hump for the first time, from which the bomber began to enter Xinjin airport. The army stationed at Xinjin airport is the 40th brigade of the 14th US air force, with 297 pilots and maintenance personnel, equipped with mobile anti-aircraft guns, anti-aircraft machine guns and searchlights, radar and ground navigation and communication equipment. The U.S. Air aid command is in Xinjin airport.
In the spring of 1944, p38 and p61 destroyers equipped with advanced radar equipment (commonly known as black widow) also stationed at Xinjin airport, and soon joined the B-29 in the war against the Japanese aggressors. Before the US Air Force stationed at Xinjin airport, Japanese planes bombed Sichuan wantonly. After the "black widow" came to Xinjin, riji immediately became dumb and ran away. From then on, US planes took off frequently from Xinjin airport and bombed Japanese artillery bases, ammunition bases and related facilities in Luoyang, Changsha and other Japanese occupied areas, which is still unforgettable.
Soon after, major general Zies Rumei and the 20th air force of the United States also entered Xinjin airport.
On June 15, 1944, the "Matterhorn" program officially began. The 58th wing mobilized 75 B-29 bombers from four flight brigades stationed in Xinjin, Guanghan, Qionglai and Pengshan airports, took off from Xinjin airport, Guanghan airport and Qionglai and Pengshan airports located in the outskirts of Chengdu, formed three groups in the predetermined airspace, flew directly to Kyushu, Japan, and bombed the Bafan imperial railway station in Kyushu, Japan( During the Second World War, Bafan imperial iron making Institute was one of the most important bases of Japanese iron and steel industry at that time. The annual output of steel there reached 2.25 million tons, accounting for 25% of the total output of steel in Japan at that time. At 23:30 on the 15th, the first group of B-29 arrived over the target and completed the bombing mission. Then the second group and the third group completed the task of dropping bombs in less than 20 minutes. On June 16, the major media at home and abroad published this amazing news in a very prominent position, and called it another great victory of the Allied forces in the long-range war against Japan since the air raid on Japan by Doolittle in 1942.
On August 20, 1944, the 58 regiment again transferred planes from Sichuan to the Bafan imperial iron making station for bombing.
On December 13, 1949, Chiang Kai Shek took a special plane from Xinjin airport to Taiwan.
In April 1950, the air transportation team of the Aviation Department of the Southwest Military Region Command (the predecessor of the 13th air force division) was established at Xinjin airport. At that time, the air transport team was mainly responsible for supporting the 18th army to Tibet.
In April 1951, based on the air force's high altitude transportation regiment, the air ground crew and some transport aircraft of the high altitude Transportation Training brigade of Changchun No.2 Aviation Academy were transferred to set up the air 13 division at Xinjin airport. Liu Shaotang, the first division commander, was appointed. At that time, the division had 876 personnel, 47 aircraft, 37th and 39th regiments, and soon formed 38th regiment. The division once participated in the fight against bandits in the kangzang area in cooperation with the ground forces.
In 1956, with the approval of Zhou Enlai, Liu Shaoqi and others, Xinjin and Guanghan airports were officially handed over to China Civil Aviation Flight Academy for training civil aviation pilots.
Current situation of the airport
Now it is Xinjin branch of Civil Aviation Flight College of China. Xinjin branch of Civil Aviation Flight College of China, founded in 1957, is the earliest flight branch of the college, covering an area of more than 4000 mu, with good flight resources and strong teaching strength. There are 36 airplanes of 4 types and 6 simulators for teaching and training.
