Haishi cave

Haishi cave is located on the top of Lingyun mountain at the left rear of the Buddha's head. It is said that Haitong lived there. Haishi cave is about 10 meters deep. The three characters "Haishi cave" are engraved on the forehead of the cave. It is written by Gu Guangxu, a Sichuan envoy during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The original statue of Haitong in the cave was destroyed later.

The inscription of "Haishi cave in Lingyun mountain" in front of the cave was drawn up by Gu Guangxu at that time and re engraved by later generations. The bronze bell in front of the cave is an old thing of the Ming Dynasty, while the sitting statue of master Haitong outside the cave was molded in recent years.

There is a legend that when the Buddha statue was under intense construction, Zen master Haitong resisted the "county officials asking for bribes", which is still praised by people today. In 1988, the statue of Haitong sitting in front of Haishi cave in Lingyun temple is about 2 meters high. It has no beads in its eyes. Its face is iron green and resolute, and its face looks angry. It has a solemn and inviolable air. Based on this legend, it takes the feat of "you can gouge out your eyes, and Buddha's wealth is rare" to show his indomitable character.

The founder of the construction of Leshan Giant Buddha is monk Haitong. Haitong, a native of Guizhou, is located in Lingyun mountain. During the summer flood season, the river water rushes against the mountain wall like ten thousand horses, and often overturns the boat, causing the tragedy of ship destruction and human death. As a result, Haitong Zen master traveled all over the Yangtze River, Huaihai lake and other places to raise human and financial resources and dig Buddha. After the construction of the Buddha statue started, the county officials blackmailed the construction funds, which aroused Haitong's great anger. They refused to say that "you can pick out the Buddha's money from your own eyes." the county officials bullied others. Instead, they said that "trying the future" was Haitong's righteous and calm attitude, that "you can pick out your own goals and hold the plate". The officials were so surprised that they ran to pray for regret. Haitong not only made corrupt officials repent, but also encouraged people to be sincere.
