It was completed and opened on November 23, 2008, and is one of the first free museums in Fujian Province.
Development history
In September 1989, Shishi established Shishi cultural center, which is a combination of cultural center, library and Museum. In June 1999, the Shishi City Museum was set up separately from the original Shishi City Cultural Center. In June 2000, the museum passed the inspection and acceptance of the Provincial Department of culture.
Basic Display
Three special exhibition halls will be set up, namely, the special exhibition of Fujian and Taiwan lion culture, the exhibition of bravely standing on the tide to commemorate the 30th anniversary of reform and opening up and the 20th anniversary of the founding of Shishi City, and the historical and cultural exhibition of charming Shishi. The three characteristic exhibitions have important and unique regional cultural characteristics and distinctive flavor of the times. It focuses on the regional cultural characteristics of "Fujian Taiwan lion culture", "Fujian Taiwan crossing culture", "ancient culture of Taiwan Strait people" and "overseas Chinese culture". The exhibition created a good social atmosphere, displayed the cultural brand of "Shishi", and built a cultural platform for the construction of "Economic Zone on the west side of the Straits" and the promotion of cultural exchanges between Fujian and Taiwan.
At the same time, we should give full play to the special role of Tibetan genealogy literature in helping Taiwan compatriots find their roots and visit their ancestors. We should set up genealogy literature research center and open "Taiwan folks' roots website". Taking advantage of "Fujian Taiwan lion culture", "Dui culture" and "Genealogy culture", we have formed cultural exchange and cooperation units with Jinmen cultural and Artistic Creation Association, Jinmen Clan Culture Research Association, hedongtang lion Museum, Ilan County, Taiwan Province, and Taiwan Lukang culture and education foundation. We have jointly carried out a series of activities in Shishi, Jinmen and other places, such as "Fujian Taiwan ferry Culture Forum" and "joint exhibition of genealogical literature in Shimen City, Jinmen County, Fujian Province", which have achieved good social benefits.
"Lion culture" Exhibition
The "special exhibition hall of Fujian and Taiwan lion culture" of Shishi Museum has collected more than 500 "lions" collected from all over southern Fujian, witnessing the flesh and blood relationship between Fujian and Taiwan with a strip of water and the same origin of Fujian and Taiwan culture. As early as the Han Dynasty, the lion, as a special foreign body, was paid tribute to China by the Yue Kingdom and the Sabbath kingdom. This kind of mighty beast was regarded as an auspicious thing, and soon became the guardian beast of the Chinese people, guarding the official Yamen and the gate of the mansion, guarding the mausoleum, and being promoted to the wind lion Lord to resist the wind for the common people. After the integration of lion culture into Minnan culture, a beautiful and dynamic style of Minnan lion carving was formed.
The collection of "lion culture" on display in Shishi museum includes stone carvings, wood carvings, root carvings, brick carvings, porcelain, pottery, purple sand, jade, iron, calligraphy and painting, etc. There are large stone lion statues in the Song Dynasty, rare horizontal tomb lion in the Ming Dynasty, "tile general" in the sauce glaze of the Qing Dynasty's Cizao kiln, and unique brick carving lion master in the Republic of China. Among them, there are more than 100 ceramic warriors of the Qing Dynasty riding on the wind lion, each of which has a different expression and action, and stands in array, which is quite impressive.
A pair of large stone lions in the museum are said to be from the Qing Dynasty and highly anthropomorphic. Most stone sculptures have four claws on the ground, but none of the lion's front claws have touched the ground. The male lion holds the hydrangea ball in his hands and looks back at the female lion affectionately. The sculptor skillfully uses a "Ribbon" hanging to the ground as a support. The female lion also looks back and uses the little lion under her body as a support.
Mr. Wang mingzong, the famous master of fengshiye ceramic art in Jinmen, presented 4 pieces of fengshiye to Shishi Museum for collection. Each of the four ceramic fengshiye is 1 meter tall. They are exquisitely carved and of different shapes. They are either holding colorful balls, holding official pens, holding ancient copper coins, or holding Eight Trigram cards with Tai Chi patterns. The meanings of these four statues are to respond to requests, to add fame, to attract wealth, and to be safe and auspicious.
Among the numerous collections in the exhibition hall, the most amazing one is the sculpture of "lion head stone boat" placed at one end of the exhibition hall. The 50 cm long stone boat is carved with spray and water patterns on both sides. There is a small hole in the boat. What's puzzling is that the head of the boat is also carved with a lion's head. "We don't know what it's for." Curator Li said that the stone carving is estimated to be a work of the middle Qing Dynasty. The most special thing is that there is a lion head carved in front of the stone boat. There is no report of similar stone carving in China. Judging from the size and style of the stone boat, experts estimate that it is an exquisite decoration for planting flowers or raising fish, but they can't give an exact answer.
Exhibition of "Straits people"
In 2008, Shishi Museum launched the special exhibition "ancient homeland", which became the only museum in mainland China featuring the display of ancient human and paleontological fossils in the Taiwan Strait. The most important archaeological discovery of Shishi cultural relics is the discovery of more than 4000 fossils of ancient human and vertebrate from the Taiwan Strait in Xiangzhi Town, Shishi City in February 1999, which has aroused the attention of Chinese archaeologists and news media at home and abroad. Among them, the ancient human humerus fossils were scientifically identified as early Homo sapiens skeleton fossils. Professor Jia Lanpo, an anthropological authority and academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, named it "Straits man" and personally inscribed congratulations on this important discovery. "This is one of the major archaeological discoveries in China since the founding of the people's Republic of China, which provides strong evidence for the integration of the mainland and Taiwan in ancient times," CCTV said in a news commentary On this basis, Shishi Museum plans to open the exhibition room of "fossils of ancient humans and vertebrates in Taiwan Strait" to make it the only special exhibition in China.
