Wucaiwan is not just a place, it is widely used to refer to the colorful wind erosion areas in East Jungar, located in the Gurbantunggut Desert more than 100km north of Jimsar County. Many people regard Wucaiwan as one of the biggest dreams of traveling in Xinjiang. Wucaiwan has become the most attractive place in Junggar basin.
In addition to winter, other seasons can go. From the end of August to the beginning of September, there are many sunny days and saturated light, and it is no longer as hot as midsummer. In a word, the best time to see Wucaiwan is when the light is good. However, some people like Wucaiwan on cloudy days and think that the color of Wucaiwan has a subtle charm at that time. It is also the essence of the Xinjiang Ya Dan landform.

Main attractions
The multicolored City
As early as hundreds of millions of years ago, in the Jurassic period, thick coal seams were deposited here. After wind erosion and rain stripping, the sand and stone on the surface of coal seams were washed away. After exposure to the sun and lightning, the coal seam burned out and the sintered rock accumulated. In addition, the mineral content in different geological periods was different. The continuous hills in this belt were mainly ochre red, mixed with yellow, white, black, green and other colors. After being blown by wind, exposed to the sun and peeled by rain, the landscape of Yadan was formed again. From a distance, it looks like a city outline and an ancient castle, hence its name.
Huoshaoshan
The difference between Huoshaoshan and Wucaicheng is that the rolling hills here are not colorful, but all ochre red made of sintered rock. Looking around, you can hardly see any other colors. Every morning and dusk, in the sun or sunset, it seems that it is still burning, magnificent and rare, hence the name.
Fossil trench
Junggar basin used to be a vast ocean with dense primeval forest on its bank. After several changes in the post crust, large areas of forests and other animals and plants were buried deep underground, and then came back to the surface after fossilization. In this fossil ditch, there are spectacular silicified wood forest, various tree seed fossils, fruit fossils and various animal fossils.
oil base
Wucaiwan has 50 million tons of oil reserves, more than 100 oil wells have been drilled, and a new "oil city" is emerging. In the magical and strange multicolored landscape, it's hard to see the prosperous scene of the oil base in other places. Gurbantongte desert landscape: with a total area of 48000 square kilometers, gurbantongte desert is the second largest desert in China. The dunes here are mostly fixed and semi fixed. Deep into the desert for tens of kilometers, you can still see large areas of red willow, Haloxylon ammodendron, reed and other green plants. In spring and summer, the grass is green, the flowers are fresh, the cattle and sheep are in groups, and the scenery is unique, which is rare in other places.
