Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro is one of the main streets in Macao Peninsula. In the south of Macao Peninsula, the east end is connected with Prince Yin Road, from Nanwan road to the west end between huochuantou street and basudaergu street, 620 meters long.

Development history

Xinma road is the most prosperous street and commercial center in Macao since 1920s to 1930s. However, 80 years ago, it was not a thoroughfare, but a winding and intermittent road. In 1918, it began to straighten the winding alleys in the west section, level up the small hills between Longsong street and Datang street in the east section, demolish a big house across the east end of the road, and build a straight road, which was called the new road.

After the opening of the road, the municipal authorities named the intersection between the city hall and the west end as Americana meripeilu Road, and the intersection between the city hall and the east end (today's Atlantic bank) as Americana Vice Admiral road. Later, it was unified as Yamei dalipilu Road (the name is too long, people still call it new road), and the new road in front of Wangxia Puji temple was named as Meifu general road. Almeida Ribeiro was a judge of the Supreme Court of Portugal. He served as Minister of the colony and Minister of the interior from 1913 to 1917. After the coup in 1917, he was arrested and imprisoned as a political prisoner.

Surrounding business district

For decades, Xinma road has been the largest commercial and residential area in Macao with the fifth day street, campsite street and caodui Street on October 5th. There are many shops on both sides of the road and there are lots of traffic all day long. Along the road, there are new Central Hotel (opened in 1928), International Hotel (opened in 1941), Atlantic bank, Dafeng bank, Yongheng bank, city hall (completed in 1784, rebuilt in 1875, redecorated in 1939), post office building (completed in 1929), etc. The buildings on both sides of the road to the west of the city hall have "arcades" to cover the sidewalks. It is a traditional architectural style of southern cities and is listed as a protected area for architectural relics.

Food and beverage

Food is one of the city characteristics of Macao. In 2017, Macao was named as the "gourmet city" of UNESCO creative city network, becoming the third Chinese city after Chengdu and Shunde.

Near Xinma Road, the most prosperous historical district in Macao, there are a lot of Chinese and Western food. Chinese style breakfast congee, Macao special snack beef, ancient breakfast snack money cake and egg, limited food in winter mutton pot Macao on the tip of the tongue makes people admire "food" one after another.

Xinma road is mainly located in the southeast of the peninsula, with a narrow strip extending from Xinma road and caodui street to the West Bank of the peninsula.

Located in the south of the Tropic of cancer, the wind is opposite in winter and summer, belonging to monsoon region and subtropical marine climate. It is warm in winter and hot in summer, humid and rainy, and the annual average temperature is about 22.3 ℃. It is most comfortable from mid October to December every year. Spring, autumn and winter are the best seasons for tourism.

January February is winter, cold air from Siberia comes one after another, passing through central and South China to Macao, bringing cold and dry north wind. Generally, the temperature is the lowest in these two months, and the temperature in the urban area sometimes drops below 10 ℃. Due to the lack of moisture in the atmosphere, there are less rainfall and rainy days.

March to April is the season alternation period, the temperature and humidity rise. In spring, except for the extremely humid days in the middle, with fog, drizzle and low visibility, the weather in other days is still good.

Summer is long. From May to September, due to hot and humid weather, there are many bad weather, such as rainstorm and thunderstorm. Meanwhile, from July to September, tropical cyclones occurred frequently, reaching the peak of the whole year in terms of rainfall, temperature, rainfall days, thunderstorms and other meteorological records. October is autumn.

Autumn is short, sunny, stable and comfortable. It is cool and dry in November, and cold air from the North invades again in December.
