Historical evolution
Name source
In ancient times, taizai island was also known as "longhuan", "Jijing", "tanzai" and "longtouhuan". But its Portuguese name has nothing to do with the above names.
It is said that when the Portuguese landed in taizai, they asked the local people about the place names (the words "name" and "name" are called "Nome" in Portuguese and "name" in English). Due to the lack of communication between the two sides, the local people listen to the Portuguese question "Nome?" as "glutinous rice?" He thought that the Portuguese were asking if the local people would sell glutinous rice, so the local people answered "Daba" (meaning "a lot"), transliterated into the Portuguese word "Taipa", and the Portuguese named the place "Taipa". Interestingly, the word "Taipa" also happens to be interpreted in Portuguese as "rammed earth" - the material used by Portuguese to build houses in the past.
history
As early as the 18th century to the early 19th century, there were only two hills and a harbor on taitsai Island, which were specially used for berthing merchant ships. Indians engaged in trade with China by sea. The ships carried cotton yarn and various manufactured goods along the Pearl River to Guangzhou. On the return journey, they bought Chinese specialties such as tea, silk and porcelain, and then sold them all over the world. After years of soil accumulation, the two hills in taizai gradually became one. Some residents began to grow vegetables or raise livestock in this land. Later, taizai was once developed into a concentration area of firecracker factories. With the steady development of Macao's economy, taitsai island is becoming more and more prosperous. In addition to some two or three storey bungalows, some high-rise western style houses, buildings and villas are also built, with elegant environment.
geographical environment
Taizai is located in the south of Macao Peninsula and the north of Luhuan island. Its geographical location is just in the center of Macao. It covers an area of about 6.33 square kilometers and has a population of about 104000. There are not only Portuguese style residential areas such as longhuan puyun, guanye street and Dibao street, but also large-scale modern construction such as Macau Stadium and Macau Jockey Club.
The mountain range of taizai island is mainly composed of granite, with northeast to southwest trend, and dominates the whole island with rolling hills. Among them, the highest one is Dashan (jijingshan), 159.1 meters above sea level. Taizai island used to be a tiny area with an area of only 2.57 square kilometers. It was composed of two small islands, big taizai and small taizai. Later, due to sediment deposition and artificial reclamation, the two islands were combined into one, making the area of taizai Island reach 6.33 square kilometers. Xisha, civilian house, racecourse, pine tail and central urban area were all reclaimed. The northwest coast of taitsai island is shallow.
Transportation
Although Taipa is an outlying island, it is connected with Macao by three existing bridges, namely, the Governor General's bridge (commonly known as the Macao Taipa bridge), the friendship bridge and the Xiwan bridge, which was completed in December 2004. Among them, Xiwan bridge is the first double deck cross sea bridge in Macao. When typhoon strikes, the lower passage will be opened to maintain the traffic between Macao and Macao. To the south of taitsai, there is a road linking taitsai with a road around the island. However, due to the sustainable development of the city and the lack of land resources, the area between the roads has been filled, and the roads connecting the roads have been expanded, and the area between the roads is divided into the road city.
The Macau International Airport is located in the east of the city of Aberdeen, built in the sea. It was opened in 1995, and has more than 10 routes to Chinese mainland and Asia. Macau International Airport is also a major transit station for Taiwan passengers to travel to Chinese mainland indirectly.
Economics
In the beginning, taitsai island was a small industrial village mainly producing fireworks and matches. Along the river, there are many new buildings, and the luxury houses with sea view are even more valuable. Although the economy of taizai has developed rapidly, it still retains its original style. For example, there are still some villages around guanye street. However, most of them changed careers. Today's taizai is a good place to eat, drink, play and enjoy. Is a tourism catering economy development.
