Yangmingshan National Park is one of the earliest national parks in Taiwan Province of China, formerly known as "Tatun National Park" established during the Japanese invasion. Located in the outskirts of Taipei City, the administrative area includes Beitou District and Shilin District of Taipei City, Wanli District, Jinshan District, Sanzhi district and Danshui town of Xinbei city. Geographically, it belongs to Datun volcano catchment area. The plan was announced on September 1, 1985, and the management office was established on September 16, 1985.
Development history
Yangmingshan, formerly known as Caoshan, generally refers to the mountain areas around Datun mountain, Qixing mountain, Shamao mountain and Xiaoguanyin mountain, rather than a single peak. In the Qing Dynasty, the local government worried that the bandits could hide in the forest to steal sulfur, so they set the mountain on fire regularly. Therefore, the whole mountain area could only grow Miscanthus.
In 1932, during the period of Japanese invasion, the "Tatun National Park Association" was established, which included the Tatun mountain area in the scope of the so-called "National Park". On December 27, 1937, "Tatun National Park" was established at the same time as "second high Taroko" and "new high Ali Mountain" until Japan was defeated. Only then "Datun National Park" still included Guanyin Mountain on the other side of Tanshui River.
In 1950, in memory of Wang Yangming, a scholar of Ming Dynasty, Chiang Kai Shek changed the name of Datun mountain, Qixing mountain, Shamao mountain and Xiaoguanyin mountain to Yangming Mountain. In 1962, the then Public Works Bureau of Taiwan province began to plan Yangmingshan National Park, with a preliminary planning area of 28400 hectares, including the north coast, Guanyinshan and Datun volcanoes.
On September 16, 1985, after years of planning and settlement of land resource disputes, Yangmingshan National Park was officially established. Its scope is mainly in the center of Datun volcano. It does not include the Guanyin Mountain in the initial planning, nor does the north coast. On October 17, 2002, Taiwan's Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of communications planned to set up the north coast and Guanyin Mountain National scenic spot.
