The cemetery is surrounded by mountains, dense forests and bamboo, round tombs and square steles. It is juxtaposed with the Zhongneng cave and the red brick house of Yan Xishan's former residence, which are hundreds of meters away, as monuments and reflect each other. It is of great value for the preservation of cultural assets.
The origin of cemetery
In modern history, Yan Xishan, known as the "king of Shanxi", is a man of the hour. He was the cover character of time magazine on May 19, 1930. In 1949, the "national government" fell into Peking and withdrew from Nanjing. Yan Xishan became "President of the Executive Yuan" and "Minister of national defense" in Guangzhou, trying to reverse the crisis. At the end of the year, the "national government" withdrew from the mainland and moved to Taiwan. In March 1950, Chiang Kai Shek returned to the post of "President". Yan Yizhong was in charge of some people, relieved from the post of "Premier" and transferred to the post of "senior minister of the presidential office". In his later years, he lived in seclusion and died in Taiwan.
In memory of his hometown, Yan Xishan's stone house was named "Zhongneng cave" in imitation of Shanxi Plateau cave building. Based on the needs of military defense, it was built on a windproof hillside overlooking the Tanshui estuary and the Taipei basin. The walls of the red brick house are 90cm thick, the floor is 30cm thick, and the windows are equipped with steel plates. It has a defensive function and has its own characteristics. It was designated as a city historic site in 2004, similar to the red brick house where Yan Xishan's bodyguard lived.
