Historical evolution
the Republic of China era
On March 18, 1922, the private southeast normal college was founded in Qingyun square, Qingdao Road, Zhabei, Shanghai. The founders of the school are president Wang Litang, Dean Chen Jiwu and accountant Tang Shian. They set up three subjects of Chinese, English and fine arts and affiliated middle school to promote new culture, and recruited more than 160 students from Anhui Province. In order to speed up the training of more Communist Party cadres, the CPC Central Committee decided to set up a cadre college. Chen Duxiu, the first general secretary of the CPC, and Li Dazhao and others had planned many times. At this time, it was due to Wang Litang, Tang Shi'an, Chen Jiwu and others in Southeast Normal University who borrowed money to collect money and fled with money. The establishment of the students' autonomous association calls for the reorganization of school affairs. Chen Duxiu or yuan Laoyu of the Kuomintang are invited to be the president. Under the background of the cooperation between the KMT and the CPC, the CPC thought that it was more advantageous to invite the KMT to run the school, and the student autonomy Association accepted the CPC's opinion. After two entreaties from student representatives and persuasion from leading figures of the Kuomintang, such as Shao Lizi, Bai liewu, Liu Yazi, Yang Xingfo and ye Chulun, Yu Youren was moved by the earnest entreaties of student representatives and agreed to accept the invitation. He suggested that the name of the university be changed to the University of Shanghai, and personally inscribed the school board.
On October 23, 1922, Shanghai University was founded. The Republic of China Daily published an announcement: "our original name was southeast normal college. Because the word" Southeast "is the same as that of National Southeast University, we hereby decide to change the educational system from the reorganization meeting and name it" Shanghai University ".
