Historical evolution

From the Tang Dynasty to the Qing Dynasty, it belonged to Xiaonv Township and Changle Township respectively. From Yuan Dynasty to Qing Dynasty, they belonged to 34 capitals and 35 capitals respectively. In 1941, it was set up in Beian District, with jurisdiction over minde, Fuyuan and Zhongxiao. In December of the Republic of China, Fuyuan township was merged into Deyuan Township, and anding township was merged into Zhongxiao township. In February 1959, five management areas were established, including Beian, Baiyang and Chengcun. In 1961, Baiyang commune and Chengcunjiang commune were separated from Beian commune, which were under the jurisdiction of Shendu district. In March 1983, the commune was transformed into a township. In February 1992, Baiyang Township and Beian Township merged to form Beian town. In December 2004, Chengcunjiang township was merged into Beian town. In 2005, Beian town governed one neighborhood committee, 20 administrative villages, 97 natural villages, 167 villager groups, 9462 households and 26133 people, including agricultural 8828 households and 24426 people. The vast majority of the residents are Han nationality, and there are nine Hui, Miao, Susu, Tujia, Korean and Li nationalities.
